Genes Reunited [ bit sick]
« on: Friday 11 July 08 08:55 BST (UK) »
just had an e-mail from genes saying could  so-so- be my relative who died in WW2, I was then invited to click on the name to find out how they had died, needless to say I was then invited to buy credits.
some of the wording i found a bit sick , as it said did he die flying spitfires thru dangerous skies or in the trenches etc.
I am in the age bracket that had a father and many other relatives in ww2, some who did not return.
I just think they should be a bit more thoughtful on their wording of these ads.

Hi,
Yeah, I got the same email a few days ago and I thought much the same thing. I think they should find a nicer way to try to get folks to buy their credits than this.

I agree.  We are all looking for families, and it matters.   Some poncy wiz kid trying to be clever, and not thinking of their customer base.

But weren't spitfires and trenches in WW1?

I have had the same email, purchased the credits, and along with the information was a picture.   No way was that a picture of my rellie, but could a newbie fall into the trap thinking it was.     Hot matches are bad as well, quite often I get John Smith born 1890 Scotland, and the match I get is John Smith born 1890 England.     >:(

Haven't even bothered going to GR anymore, think I will let the membership die out.

They must have had a real blitz on this, as I have received two or three emails, almost identical, asking if a certain ancestor of mine was a WWII hero.  If they bothered to check, they would see that he was too old to have been in WWII.  I just become irritated and delete!  I am not a paying member of GR, and this, and the lukewarm matches, do not entice me to become one!!!  ::)

Yes Genes a bit sick at the moment. I also keep getting emails asking if particular names on my account are WW2 or WW1 heroes regardless of age ???
Not the Ideal thing to do.
This appears to be a big thing with them at the present.
