Which David Flucker (c1823 Leith North)

Hi, I have just started tracing my Flucker family tree which has been quite easy given the rare surname and the geographical tight location of Newhaven/Leith. However I have reached a block going back beyond the marriage of David Flucker and Henrietta Seaton at 7/11/1823. The OPR does not record the groom's parents and there are three OPR birth records for David Flucker's around the right age. Short of basing the choice of one from three on child naming patterns I am at a loss as how to proceed. Has anyone else traced back through this block? The LDS chooses one option but no provenance.

I have some Fluckers in my tree, mostly fisherman from Cockenzie/Prestonpans about the 1820's onwards. Could be related, I had thought that this name was "Flockhart" but locals had changed to "Flucker" over the years.

Did he die in Scotland post-1855? If so, his parents should be named on the death certificate.

  Unfortunately I cannot find a record of his death post-1855 so assume he died earlier.

  Was not aware there were Fluckers in Cockenzie/Prestonpans, my relatives were mainly fishermen and fishwives so could be related. The family legend is that the name is Flemish and they were shipbuilders who came across to build the Great Michael. David had children David, Seaton, Ann, Alexander and John all born between 1824 and 1836.

David Flucker and Henrietta Seaton were my 3rd great grandparents!! What relation are they to you?

I have been researching the Newhaven families for a long time and with a lot of work and elimination have David's parents as Thomas Flucker and Ann Christie. Have also had other people who are working on this confirm that this seems to be correct.

The only Henrietta Flucker I can find dying between 1855 and 2006 in all of Scotland was:

No records of a Henrietta Flucker - other name Seaton.

Do you have them in the '41 and 51 census?

The death that Steve mentions above is the death of Henrietta Seaton Flucker...she was the daughter of David and Henrietta's son, John. She married a John Robertson.

It's been a while but the Scottish Genealogist journal has a 2 part feature on an 1834 court case concerning a "sterr-heid rammy" in Newhaven involving Liston's, Flucker's & Seatons.

such an unusual name makes it more memorable ... there was a family of that name in Millglen Road, ARDROSSAN in the 1950s and 1960s so a check on the Electoral Records would give you details to search their origins.  A man in the house named James would have been born 1938 - 44.  Locally it was thought that they were of German origin and pronounced the name as 'Flooker'.
