Likely Burial Place, Tyseley?
« on: Tuesday 08 July 08 13:37 BST (UK) »
Planning on taking a quick trip to Birmingham next week, so I was hoping to find out where my grandmother and probably her parents were buried before we set off.

Unfortunately the one family member who will know seems to be away at the moment, so I can't ask him!

If a person lived in Tyseley, up until their death in 1963, where would they be most likely to be buried?  I know they were married at St John's Sparkhill, but there doesn't seem to be a burial ground there.  I really feel a cemetery is the most likely place, but which one?  I am aware that if you know the correct location, you can have a search done for a burial plot, but I need a bit of help getting to that point!

Any suggestions would be really helpful

Hello Jenna
Could be Acock's Green Cemetery. It's the closest to Tyseley that I know of.

The largest and therefore the most commonly used is Witton.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that Jim - Acock's Green was mentioned in an uncertain way by another family member, so my money's on that one.  I'll bear Witton in mind too though.

If I don't get confirmation from elsewhere, I plan to pop into the Central Library when in Birmingham and see if I can look at the burial registers before I head out there; lots of train trips for us!

You're quite right, I could do...

But, as I'll be away from my mail from the early part of next week, I may miss their reply.  Also, I was under the impression that you had to pay for a search?  I think it's £19.  Seems a shame to do that if I'm going to be there in person soon.

If it doesn't pan out as planned, I will contact them though..
