DUNKELD Info. Plse.
« on: Sunday 29 June 08 07:40 BST (UK) »

Hi all,
Will be in Perth August this year & need to know if there are many cemeteries in Dunkeld preferrably older ones as I will be looking for MI's around 1750's -
1850's.  Being rather optimistic I know, as any in the era may be in bad condition or non-existent.

Otherwise would like to know where I would go to access burial records in Dunkeld.

Thank you,
Tiffaney

Hi Tiffaney,

If you go to :
www.genuki.org.uk/big/sct/PER/LittleDunkeld/index.html you will find that there are two burial places - Little Dunkeld Churchyard, and Little Dunkeld Cemetery.  You will also find that there has been some transcriptions done.

Many thanks Isles...that's great.  You've made my day!!  :D

regards,
Tiff

ps.  Why is it they are not in Dunkeld itself plse?  Also I have of Dunkeld Cathedral...do they have a cemetery close by?
Also do you know which would be the closest Family History Society to Dunkeld or do they have their own?

Thankyou.

Go to www.genuki.org.uk/Societies/Scotland.html and you'll find that Perthshire is represented by the Central Scotland Family History Society, the North Perthshire Family History Group, and the Tay Valley Family History Society.
I may be wrong but I don't believe that there is a cemetery/  churchyard at the Cathedral.  Perhaps one of the Societies could advise.
Added:  I was wrong, there are gravestones at the Cathedral. If you log on to www.geograph.org.uk, and enter Dunkeld Cathedral you'll see them clearly in one of the photos.

Thank you again Isles,

Wonderful, time saving, info.  Really pleased you found gravestones at Cathedral and have given me websites to search.

Your help is very much appreciated.

Hello Tiff, it's a while since you posted your query. Did you find the MIs you were looking for?

Thank you for your enquiry Jean.

Unfortunately didn't get a chance to spend time in Little Dunkeld but hope to go again in 2010.
Looked in Cargill cemetery with the help of a friend..no sign of my Marjery McLauchlan (MS Milne).
So my answer is no...unfortunately.

Hi Tiff,

I've got the MIs for Dunkeld Cathedral, Little Dunkeld and Birnam, Dunkeld. Are you looking for anyone specific in these areas?
I also have the pre 1855 gravestone index for east perthshire (Strathmore & Carse of Gowrie)

Hello again Jean,

Thank you very much for your kind offer.
McLauchlan (John, James, Wm) is the surname I'm looking for which of course at times has different spellings. MacLachlan/e etc.  Was also looking for Marjery Millne but now think she my have been buried in Killspindie c1850...I supposed they have a cemetery.

Also have booklet I purchased which has Moulin Perth MI's if  interested.

Nice to be in touch again Jean..hope all well with you.
Not getting notifications so sorry about my delay in replying to you.
Tiff :)
