Memorial Inscripions, Comrie Old Cemetery
« on: Sunday 29 June 08 00:18 BST (UK) »
Hi.
I need the Memorial Inscriptions on a specific headstone in Comrie Old Cemetery, the one on the Crieff side of the river Earn in the grounds of the old white church on the main road, now a community center.
Does anyone know if the MIs in this cemetery have been transcribed?
The grave dates from the mid-to-late 20th century, so old MI transcriptions might not include it.
I have the Lair Number of the grave, and some of the names on it.
Is there anyone offering a headstone photo or transcription service in the area?
Cheers, Roger

I have the Monumental Inscriptions for South Perthshire, with some Comrie graves: Comrie Churchyard; Comrie Dundurn; Comrie Tullichettle

Have you some names for me to look up for you?

Wow, that's great news, thanks very much for your kind offer. The names I'm after are all on one stone. We have a photo of it but it's pretty bad and we can't read some of the dates.
Here is the text starting at the top:

IN LOVING MEMORY
OF
JOHN HAMILTON
BELOVED SON OF
WILLIAM M AND JEANETTE F HAMILTON
WHO DIED 2?TH MARCH 1941?
ALSO HIS MOTHER
JEANETTE FRANCES
? ? ? ? ? ? ? DIED 1 (3-?) OCTOBER 18??
AND HIS FATHER
WILLIAM MUNRO HAMILTON
BORN ?? OCTOBER 1??4 DIED 23RD AUG 19??
AND THEIR GRANDSON
ALLAN MUNRO HAMILTON
BORN 12TH(?) MARCH 1950? DIED 21? JUNE 1970?
AND THEIR SON WILLIAM
BORN ?? JUNE 1923 DIED 1ST JAN 1987
IN NEW ZEALAND

I hope you can fill in some of the question marks for me.

Thanks again,
Roger

Sorry Roger, if I have mis-led you.

My Monumental Inscriptions for the Comrie Church yard are pre 1855 and of the 135 entries, there are none for a Hamilton.

Regards,

Keith

Hi Keith,
No problem, I guess I'm going to have to shell out a few thou and visit Comrie myself  8). Thanks very much for trying anyway.
One positive is that the absence of Hamilton names pre-1855 helps define the time of migration to Comrie.
Cheers, Roger
