James McDonald of Castledermot-help!
« on: Thursday 26 June 08 14:36 BST (UK) »
Hello all

I'm trying to trace any info on my g grandfather James McDonald.  I know he was born in Castledermot, Co Kilare in c1879 and was a railway porter.

He married Agnes Kelly from Queenstown (b.1883) and they had 13 children and lived in Carrick-on-Shannon.

That's all I know I'm afraid.............any additional info greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Nick

Do you have their marriage certificate yet? It should list names and occupations of both fathers and residence of bride and groom at the time of their marriage.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Kildare Genealogy list the following births in the parish of Castledermot in their indexes.

James Joseph McDonald 1879
James McDonald 1880.

These are the church records and you can order online for 5 euro each for an instant transcript.

Good luck,
J.T.A.

The James McDonald you seek was born in 1879 son of Patrick McDonald and Bridget Nolan of Barnhill, Castledermot.
Patrick McDonald was born in 1836 son of James McDonald and Mary Hoey.
Bridget Nolan was born in 1844 daughter of Mathew Nolan and Catherine Tomney.
These families are old established families from Castledermot, with the exception of the Tomneys who came from Tullow, Co. Carlow.

Hello M J Wall

Thank you very much for all that information. It is very helpful!
I would very much appreciate it if you could share any additional information you have on any of these people.
Thought I had come to a dead end on this one, but you have spurred me back into action!

Thanks again
