This site gives a good description of English gentlemen farmers and their families in seventeenth century Ireland as well as the relationship which existed between those
in "the Big House" and their surrounding tenantry http://tinyurl.com/3p8l5u

I used visit Miss Lymbery when I was a child, with my mother and little sister. She lived alone in the C of I widows apartments, although she never married. She was a lovely old lady, very sweet. I didn't know the Lymbery family once owned Kilcop. Last person owned it was Mrs Bright - she used ride with the Gaulteer Hounds.
