Dear Beanie and others,
I have some McKibbons (McKibbons, McCubbin, McGibbon etc), in particular the family of John McKibband and Margrat Gibson in the mid 18th century (these two were married in 1755).

I've looked through the previous posts here and see various later McCubbins - am assuming there are no older MIs with any of these spellings (and very few people had MIs in the 18th century) but am posting just in case. They moved between Stoneykirk, Inch and Kirkmaiden.

Any Gibsons also?

Jenny

Hi Jenny
I've checked through all 3 MI's and there are no Mc Kibbon, McGibbans, although there are a couple of McCubbin but of later dates. There are 36 MI's of Gibsons in all three cemeteries. If you can give me names and dates I will gladly check through them for you.

Thanks Beanie. The Gibson I've found so far is Margrat (who married John McKibband in 1755), probably born around 1730. Possible names of her parents or other family members might be Susanna or Grisal, Alexander, Mary, John, based only on the names of her children.

All best,
Jenny

Hi Beannie,

I'm hoping to find info on an Alexander McGuffie b abt 1821 Kirkmaiden and died 21 Dec 1891 Kirkmaiden, Married Mary McCulloch b abt 1821 in Kirkmaiden in 1845.

i think that they had 4 children James 1848, Alexander 1850, John 1854 and William 1859.

It would be great to find if any of the above appear on any graveyard inscriptions in Kirkmaiden.

many thanks for you help

Ivylea

Hi Ivylea,
Here are the 3 McGuffies in the MI book. All the others are McGuffog

(Ornamental cross on three step base) "Thy will be done".
Erected by the family in loving memory of their brother Robert McGUFFIE, son of James McGUFFIE, who died at Drummore 6th March 1906 aged 22 years. Elizabeth TORRANCE, wife of James McGUFFIE, who died 27th July 1920 aged 70 years. The above James McGUFFIE died 21 Jan. 1933 in his 87th year.

(Right side) Also their youngest sister Bessie died 19th Nov. 1932 aged 43 years. Interred in Edinburgh.
(Left side) Also their sister Janet died 23rd Oct. 1956 aged 82 years.

The next one is very long, re; McMurtrie, but at the bottom it says
Their daughter Maggie Thomasina McCracken beloved wife of Alexr. McGUFFIE died in Edinburgh 29th Sep. 1968 aged 70 years. The above Alexander McGUFFIE died in Drummore 29th Sep aged 81.

Beannie,

The info that you have provided fits in with the info I have already.

William McGuffie , husband of Jane Martin (I didn’t have her maiden name before) I believe is one son of Alexander McGuffie and Mary McCulloch. (Do you think that Peter would have been named Martin as he was born and died before William and Jane were married). I'll start to look for their marriage info.

James McGuffie,  husband of Elizabeth Torrance is another son of Alexander McGuffie and Mary McCulloch.

I already have their children to be
Janet (b 1874)
Margaret (b1877)
William (b1879)
David (b 1881)
Robert (b 1884)
Alexander (b1886)
John (b 1888)
Elizabeth (b 1889)

The info that you provided matched the above for Robert, Janet, Bessie and Alexander.

You mention the latter being on your tree, do you have him listed as a son of James and Elizabeth or is he a different Alexander to the one in my tree.

thanks :)

Hi Ivylea,
I have James, who married by 2xGreatGrandmothers cousin, Grace Gowan McCracken in 1908, son of James and Elizabeth Torrance. The McGuffies' are only by marriage. I have James McGuffie, husband of Elizabeth Torrance death in 1933, if you want it I will send it via PM.
I hope this helps.
I think there was a McGuffie who was the Harbour Master at Grummore before my Great Grandfather David Chalmers.
Kind Regards

Hello,
My relatives are listed below, Joseph and Jane Hamilton.  Is it possible to get copies of this information?  If so, who do I contact?
Thank you so very much.  (*)

Hi Linda,
There are 4 Hamilton's in  the Stoneykirk MI's
I think this one is yours
Erected in memory of William HAMILTON who died 15 Sept 1878 aged 9 years. Also William HAMILTON father of the above who died 25 Dec 1882 aged 78 years.

There is also a Joseph Hamilton late Land Steward Drumbreddan died 20/2/1896 aged 74 and his wife Jane Jackson died 8/1/1892 aged 70.

Elizabeth Hamilton died 27/1/1--- aged 89 years, by W. Coffel

Grace McHaffie Milligan sister of Mrs Hugh Milligan died 15/4/1918 aged 78.

If any of these are yours, let me know and will send the full transcription
There are 7 Hamiltons in Kirkmaiden
If you know any names and dates I will check them for you as it is the next Parish to Stoneykirk
Kind Regards
Jeanne
