Baskerville / Cheyne
« on: Tuesday 24 June 08 23:38 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have any access to directories for Edinburgh between 1860 & 1869? I am trying to locate the above two surnames.

David Baskerville - occupation shoemaker

Helen Cheyne

Alexander Cheyne occupation merchant seaman

Marjory (May) Cheyne

David & Helen married in 1864 in Edinburgh and apparently remained there until before March of 1871.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Janice,

I assume you have David and Helen in Glasgow at 5 Malta Street in 1871?

And David, a 20 year old Shoemaker, appears with Mum, Harriett in the 1861 census in Cheshire.

Hi Kenny

Thank you. I do have the information for David & Helen in Glasgow, as well as David in Cheshire. What I am trying to find out, is who Helen (Ellen) was staying with, as well as if there were any other Baskerville's living in Edinburgh just before David moved there.

Hi Janice,

In 1851 Helen was staying with her Aunt - Williamina Grieve - in Edinburgh but wasn't with them in 1861.  Had she gone back to Shetland?  There is a Female Servant working there at the time who fits the bill in 1861?

Kenny,

Thank you so much. I really appreciate this. With the name of Willamina Grieve, it now gives me more to go on.

Thank you J.J.

I have been in touch with the gentleman from that post (a long time ago). I will have to get in touch with him again, regarding this new information. I hadn't noticed a relationship between Helen and Williamina before.
