Are they on the 1851 census?

http://www.dumgal.gov.uk/services/depts/comres/library/census_search.asp

It may help to place them in a smaller area than as Dumfries was massive compared to the other towns and it takes hours to go through it.

Hi Pam!   My William Green who had issue with at least 2 different woman: Margaret Burgess and Mary Baird appears to be dead by 1851.  Mary Baird was found in the 1851 website which you posted, living in the village of Duncow, Kirkmahoe.  She was listed as widowed and was living with her daughter Elizabeth Green and Elizabeth's husband John Jardine.  The James Green born in 1813 was in Canada by 1832.  I would be interested in any of the siblings of William and William Green himself.
As for the Rodger family I have no more clues other than the marriage and children being born in the parish of Dumfries, Dumfrieshire.  Kind regards, James.

Hi Pam.  Just to clear things up regarding 1841 census, so there is no confusion.  My Greens should be in Lochmaben and John and Helen Rodger should be in the parish of Dumfries, Dumfrieshire.  James :)

Hi again,

Sorry for the delay - it's budget time at work so I've been snowed.  I still have to type up my 1841 Lochmaben Greens - when it's done I will post it in txt format for you.

I've covered the first 5 enumeration districts for Dumfries and no Rodger's - only another 20 odd districts to do lol!

All the best,
Pam

Hiya,

Haven't managed to get back to the Dumfries film BUT have got hold of an index for 1841, what a boon.

Righty  ::)

Dumfries 1841
Enum 15 Page 1
St Michael's St 70 (not sure what that 70 means?)

John Roger 30 Cotton Weaver born Dumfriesshire
Helen Roger  25 born England
William Roger 3
Robina Roger 1

So no "d" in the surname but this has to be them, Robina isn't such a common name.

I also picked up the OPR burials for Lochmaben - you probably already have this but there is only one Green in the 1766-1770, 1796-1819 coverage.

Catherine Galloway wife of James Green buried Applegarth residence Gotterbie 26 Nov 1801

As or 1841 Greens

In house of Janet Jardine (65), Jean Irving (40) & Sarah Hoffan (10)
1 East Street Margaret Green 3 Y

In house of Gavin Wood (35) & Margaret Wood (45)
2 East Street  John Green 12 Y
2 East Street  Martha Green 15 Y

My lot...

James Green 35 Labourer Y

Janet      Anderson   55                           Y
George   Green   24   Ag Lab   Y
Elizabeth Jardine     25                            Y

Robert Green 20 farm servant   Y

o West St
Elizabeth Hay Green 49   Y
James   Green   50   lab.   Y

These last 5 households are from an index and I want to double check them as I don't think Smallholm is a complete household.

Cheers,
Pam

PS - should have said the numbers on the addresses are mine to define entries NOT from the film.

PPS - Also should of said, there were no GREEN families on the Applegarth/Sibbaldie census for 1841.  There may have been one young male farm servant but can't find my notes - I'm in paper hell at the mo  :(

Thank you so much for the research Pam!
It has been quite helpful.  We did not know that John Rodger's wife was born in England!

Pam, thank you so much for all of your time and research!!!  We did not know that John Rodger's wife was born in England and we didn't know that there was a son William.  Thank you also for the 1841 census information for the Green surname.  I believe that Catherine Galloway actually died in Lockerbie.  It doesn't look like her husband, James Green was alive in 1841.  Our connection from William Green who had children with Margaret Burgess and Mary Baird does not appear to be alive in 1841.  I guess there is always a possibility that they moved to another parish!  Thanks again, James.

Since a good 70% of the people in my tree are in Dumfriesshire I'm often looking in other parishes so if I see any GREENs I'll keep a note and post them here as and when I find them - just in case they're your long losts.

There seems to be some connection to Urr and Colvend as well - it maybe coincidence but a few Lochmaben GREENs seem to turn up there in 1881.  Mine do.
