Hi,

We have a Mary Green b. Aug 6, 1796, in Applegarth, died Aug 14, 1862 in Lochmaben. Her father was James Green (no other info) and mother Cathrin Galloway b. Nov 27, 1757, in Covington, Lanarkshire and died Nov 26, 1801, and buried in Applegarth. Mary's brothers and sisters were: George Green b. June 27, 1791, in Lochmaben, Margaret Green b. March 11, 1793, in Applegarth, and Montgomery Green b. March 5, 1800, in Lochmaben.

Mary married John Brockie March 29, 1816, in Lochmaben, and they had 8 little Brockies.

Does anyone have any more info or connections to these people?

Thanks

Hi waughboy,

If you read back on this thread you will see that the James Green and Catherine Galloway you refer to were / are my 6 x great grandparents.  My 5 x greatgrandfather was James Green, James and Catherine's first born in 1788 believed to have been within the Applegarth area.

Your Mary and my James were siblings.

Welcome to the family.

Good Morning everyone, am a newcomer here trying to trace some family roots.  My father's side of the family hail from West Lothian (I have quite a common surname, so my work will really be cut out for me there !!  :-X), but there is some family lore about Swedish economic migrants coming to Scotland at the time of the Cotton Famine in the 1860's, and changing their name in World War One beause "....it sounded rather German"

However, my mother's clan are from Lochmaben.  My grandmother was Marjorie Green, and her brother was the Kenneth (known as "Kenny") Green (killed in France in 1915) mentioned in second/third post - which immediately grabbed my attention !! :o.  She married a William Harvey Grierson, and lived all her days in Lochmaben.

Any information on that strand of the Green clan, or the Griersons, much appreciated
 :)

Hi there.
Robert Green m  Henrietta Ryecroft are part of my family tree on my father's mothers side. Any info at all would be appreciated. especailly dates. Have looked at some of your info and trying to sort through it all. Do you know where their graves are?
I was born in Lockerbie and only started researching this summer after a quick visit to Register House in Edinburgh.
I live in south Africa now so no more trips to graveyards.

Hi johneljay

Welcome to the site and I know exactly where your Kenneth Green headstone is located in the older part of Lochmaben cemetery.  If you would like a photograph of the headstone I can get you one when I'm next in the area (which will be this coming Christmas time).

I may have had a photograph saved on my old pc, but I'm afraid it blew up.

As far as the Grierson's are concerned, I'd need to check my records.

Hi Sheila,

I think there is info posted on here or another Green - Lochmaben thread about your Robert and Henrietta.  I think there could be a headstone for your Robert as well in the same graveyard...Same offer as above applies if you would like a photo when I'm next up in Dumfriesshire.

Will get back to you once I have some spare time (it's a bit hectic at the moment as I have just got married to a lovely lovely).

Watch this space,
