Thanks for the offer of a photo, Kojak. That would be great.

I was in Lochmaben cemetery in August and found Robert Coltart and Mary (Smith) Henderson's  grave stone. She was my great grandmother. I have since progressed further with my family tree but have come to a bit of a standstill with Robert Green and Henrietta Ryecroft. I know there are others following this trail so I will keep checking for info from them.
I live in SA and won't be back in my home town of Lockerbie until next year so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks and 'go well' as they say here.

Hi Folks,

Some photos taken on 27 December 2009 at the old (mid 19th century onwards) lochmaben cemetery.

Hope the inscriptions are of interest to some people.

All the best for 2010.

Great photos kojak and congrats (a bit late) on your nuptuals.

The second Robert Green photo of Castle Street is Robert Green and Henrietta Ryecroft's son.  Notes are on another PC.  I have a photo of the entry in the memorial books at Edinburgh Castle will post when back in house.

Hi, This is my first posting and I'm impressed by the amount of information available on the Greens of Lochmaben. I am a great great grandson of George Green and Elizabeth Jardine.

I had already found George Green's parents, James Green and Elizabeth Hay, but only on joining this thread have I picked up the suggestion that James Green might be the eldest son of James Green and Catherine Galloway. Am I interpreting this correctly? I refer to BoongiePam's posting of 17/8/04.

Elizabeth Jardine's father was John Jardine and her mother was Jannet Anderson. Like another contributor, I found no evidence that they were married. Jannet Anderson's death certificate lists both her father and mother as 'unknown'. I think this might constitute a brick wall as far as that line is concerned.

I notice other contributors mentioning George Green and Elizabeth Jardine. I am descended from their daughter Mary (B Lochmaben 1849). I would be interested in hearing from other descendants.

Hi again! I've finally come back to trying to find more info on James Green and Catherine Galloway. I have to thank people here for providing much of the information that helped me make a few connections. I have consolidated much of the info as it relates to my side of the family at http://www.waughfamily.ca/Galloway/ Just click on Catharine Galloway & James Green at the top (in case I've moved that info onto a "Green" page).

I'm still trying to find out who James Green's (b. about 1756) parents were. Any info or ideas?

Thanks.

Hi All,

MNB - I presume you are Mike, and if so, I hope you are well and had an enjoyable trip to Northern Ireland earlier in the summer. In case you are unsure who I am, I am your third cousin a few times removed, Kenny.

Waughboy - I have heard a few people have been very impressed with your website. Wel done, it looks great! I hope to look over it in more detail over the course of the next week or so (when I shall be taking a few days off work to try and get my various notes and info saved electronically) I shall be accessing your site to get my Green lineage in a semblance of order.

The closing question you leave hanging Waughboy is certainly something to aim for... I think finding James Green's (born c.1756) parents will depend upon finding his definitive baptismal date. Perhaps this is recorded in the OPR kept at the NAS in Edinburgh. I understand that the record collection for Applegarth and sibbaldbie is 813a and the OPR start in 1749 !!

If anyone is going to Edinburgh soon, perhaps this might be worthy of a couple hours of study...

Kind Regards,
Kojak

Hi all :-)

Apologies for coming to this late. Elizabeth Tweedie was my great great grandmother, and I have managed to get quite far back with the Greens, (but I'm stuck at Henrietta Ryecroft like some others here!) That said, I would be grateful for any other information. I am happy to send anybody the link to my Ancestry.com family tree if they want a look.

My main query is this - Joseph Tweedie Green (1879-1918) and Sarah Carmichael (1881-1953) were my great grandparents. From what I can see, Sarah was illegitimate. BUT, from somewhere (perhaps from information given to me by one of my many Green cousins!) I have her father as a Hugh Ward, born around 1840/41 in County Armagh. He shows up in Lochmaben for the 1901 census, but that's all the info I have. Help anyone? Does anyone know if he was indeed the father?

Thanks in advance, and feel free to email me!

Claire
