Armstrong Family Derby
« on: Monday 23 June 08 16:49 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone

I'm new to this website.  Is there anyone out there who has regular access to Derbyshire Records Office as I am trying to find my great great great grandfather's birth 1806 Derby, he was the son of an army officer and his name was Henry Armstrong.  I regularly go to Flintshire, Denbighshire and Cheshire records office and am a member of ancestry so am happy to return the favour

thanks

Catmad

Welcome to RootsChat
Have you seen the entry on IGI (extracted)?
Henry Armstrong
christened 8 Dec 1805 St Michaels derby
parents Thoas Armstrong/Elizabeth

extracted from Bishops transcripts St Michaels Derby 1662-1856
Microfilm Lichfield Joint record office

if this is your henry thought it might give a clue as to where SKS could look

Hi Catmad,
Welcome to rootschat.
Thought you might find this site useful, as you're researching Derbyshire - so much information on there (including some Armstrong wills):
www.wirksworth.org.uk
When I first started my research I contacted the Derbyshire Record Office and found them extremely helpful when I explained I lived some distance away - I'm sure you will also find a similar response.
Good luck - hope you find the site useful.
Kind regards,
 Paulene :)

Hi Catmad,
Glad you find it useful. :)
Thought you might like this one, too - in case you establish where the family came from:
www.picturethepast.org.uk
If you're anything like me you like to get the whole picture, not just the names, etc.
Hoping my Adams lot from the Black Country might lead me back to Wales- who knows!!!
Take care,
Paulene :)
Let us know how you're getting on with the Armstrongs. I have Armstrongs that feature in my tree, but their origins are the Swainby area of Yorkshire (lots of Armstrongs in Yorks).

Thanks very much.  Yes you're correct I do like to get an idea of the whole picture.  My gt gt gt grandfather was born in Derby the son of an army officer so I am trying to find out if any militia were stationed there, or if the family were just passing through in 1806.
If you would like any information about North Wales then let me know as I regularly go to Flintshire Records Office which also holds a lot of info for Denbighshire

best wishes

Hi, Cat,
I'm replying to your private message re: Birkenhead Armstrongs, because I haven't figured out how else to do it!  ???   It doesn't look likely there's any connection: completely wrong social class and all my Armstrongs lived in Liverpool itself after arriving from Ireland.
cheers,
Chris.
