Hi Yvonne,
Seeings as no one can find Daniel on the 1841/51, here's my two cents worth. Could be completely wrong.
I agree the mothers MN is McQUEEN. In my experience I have found McQUEEN, QUEEN and QUINN to be interchangable. As there is nothing obvious coming up for this family under MacCAULAY and variants, maybe Daniel was the illegitimate child of Susan, and Daniel was reputed father.
I found this family group on the 1841 census in Edinburgh, Midlothian. The Address is Castle Hill:
Peter QUINN M 45 Labourer Ire
June QUINN F 37 Lodgings Ire
Susan QUINN F 19 Female Serv MID
William QUINN M 15 Town Carter MID
Daniel QUINN M 6 MID
also people by the names of ARNOT, DOLLAN, MULROY and LINDSAY staying there.
Susan is a bit young, but women can have babies at 13, and Daniel is also a bit young, but ages are only as correct as the people telling them. Pity the relationships are not shown in the 41 (but I have found that these are not always correct anyway, my GGgrandfather is recorded as being his grandmothers niece on the 51)
I don't have access to the 1851 census, but maybe someone else can find this family on it to either discount or confirm.
Karen
