Swanley Home for Little Boys, Swanley , Kent

My grandfather was sent with one or more of his brothers to this home  - Swanley Boys Home  (Passmore Edwards' Home for Little Boys, Swanley
founded in 1896 ) He was Sidney Edmund Jagger b 28 Sept 1898 in Cowpen, Blyth, Northumberland and the family story goes that when his father died in 1908 he and the boys (Arthur was one) were sent away to this school as their mother had no income.  I have found a bible presented to Sidney, by the school,  on his 14th birthday in 1912.

Sidneys father was Frederick William Jagger b 1854 in Brompton, Middlesex and he was in the navy and a coastgurad before settling in Blyth where he was the Captain of Blyth Harbour dredger up until his death.

I ahve been unable to find any lists of pupils from the Swanley & Frningham Schools for Little Boys.  Can anyone help?

I don't know if you have made any progress with this but I have found the following which shows a great amount of records surviving

I can't quite make out exactly where they are but it seems they were deposited with the National Childrens Homes and are now held .................... Liverpool? Birmingham? University ???  Perhaps you can look a bit more closely ::)

It says that the records are closed for 100 years but you may be able to apply the "Freedom of Information Act" :-\

I am looking into the Jagger family for the grandson of Sidney's brother Arthur.

Your post was a long time ago but if you are still researching I would love to share any info. Did you ever find records for the boys' home?

I was browsing pictures for another thread on here and came across a wonderful resource. Its called the Childrens Homes website and it lists a lot of the older childrens homes. Some of the language used then may offend but the resource is wonderful
