Anyone out there got either of these names in their tree, especially Limehouse, Shoreditch  or Poplar areas.

Yes I do!

My Great Grandads sister Violet Maud Susan Ginno married Ernest Tarleton in 1919 in Woolwich.  Their son was Kenneth Tarleton born 1928 who died 1998.  I think his sons are Alan & Brian.  Violet died in 1988.  Forget where they lived exactly, can check with my Nan though.
Any connection?

Hello Keiran
Thanks for reply.
I have not come across any of those names - yet. I have got mainly Thomas's and Williams and several with the middle names of Weldon and Digby. Totally confused at the moment, went mad and sent off for 5 certs, got them all back today and i have a birth cert Thomas Weldon   1854, father Richard Thomas, marriage Thomas Weldon   1882 father Richard Thomas, death cert Thomas Weldon 1847 aged 51 father at death Richard Thomas. The Tarletons themselves seem to have originated on my side from Ireland and somewhere along the way lost the 'e'
got all excited because i found on the net a marriage between a John  Tarleton and a Miss Weldon c 1740 and thought that was where the strange middle name started,
only to find later a John Weldon Tarleton and a Miss Scott  being the father of Robert Tarleton c1750. As you can probably imagine i am tying myself up in knotts with all these Tarletons. I have printed off everything i can find about them, will have a sort through and see if i can find anything of interest to you . What year  do you actually go back to?
Names Maureen - not gunner (couldnt think of anything else, wouldnt accept my name - so i used the dogs, husband Arsenal fan)
bye
maureen

Hi Maureen
My Uncle had a dog called Highbury after Arsenal's football ground!

Well the Tarleton's aren't actually my line, they married into my family so the furthest back is the marriage of Ernest to Susan Ginno in 1919 at Woolwich. Their son was Ken registered in the Woolwich District of Kent.
Just phoned Nan and she said that her Auntie Vi & Unle Ern kept a sweet shop in Woolwich and later had a Chemist shop in Lewisham and lived in.  Up to when she died they lived in Eltham, London.
You certainly have a puzzel to sort through don't you. Unfortunately Nan doesn't know any more on the Tarleton's, she didn't know where Uncle Ernie was from originally.

Hope you have some luck, best wishes

Kieran

Just saw you second reply!

Yeah Newton Abbot, how funny  :)

I'm in the Bradley Barton area just on the outskirts of the town & work for Lloyds TSB in the town.  Where abouts did you live?

Small world!

Hello Again
When we first moved to Newton didnt know the area and bought a place on Milber, Mildmay Road, daughter went to Milber and got bullied  so moved her to Woolborough, then we  sold up and bought a bungalow in Applegarth Ave, if you stand on Bradley Barton and look forwards across
Ashburton Road there is a bungalow that was built in between the older ones, goes up to a point and was cream, got the steps next to it, we bought that, then moved later to Kingsteignton and stayed there 7 yrs, daughter went to Teign followed by Torquay College and then Rolle teacher training at Exmouth.(Part of Plymouth Uni) she used to do a lot of dancing, knew several people from different schools, trying to think of names ---
Carrie Wilbur who's Mum worked for LLoyds Bank, Lisa Kay (who ended up in Hollyoaks on TV) along with all her brothers and sisters, think they still live Bradley Barton, Jon Lee from S Club 7 who went to Coombshead (as did Lisa) If you was brought up in Newton i can say without doubt you probably know a lot of the same people. (She was born 1980)We moved back up here   because i thought i wanted to, daughter followed, she hates it and so do we, still spends most week-ends down with friends at Teignmouth but my husband works Saturdays so havent been back since we moved - keep looking at houses on the net though.
Strange isnt it, as you say, small world.
I gave into the name of Gunner because we could hardly have a large Airedale  called bubbles (for West Ham)
bye
maureen

Yeah I know where you mean, I'm in Mayfield Crescent, just looked out the window now and can see the houses from here!  :D
My Auntie was a teacher at Milber Infants, I think that area has a reputation.  She is Miss Curnow as the children would of known her.
I know the Kays!!! We lived in the same street till a couple years ago.  I am the same age as Lisa's younger sister Vicky.  They all did well for themselves. The family moved to East Ogwell, just behind Bradley Barton really. Yeah my brother was the same age as Jon Lee at school.  Our friends went to Teign school, Simon, Robert & Samantha Ford and someone I worked with Teresa Brzozwski.  Can't think of someone with the surname Wilbur at work at the moment. My brother Conrad was born 1981 and my sister Chantel 1984.
It is a nice area down here, wouldn't want to live anywhere else, we are so close to the moors, the sea and in between anywhere we would need to go so it's nice.

Cheers

Kieran

Do you realize that you may be associated with a famous name. Banastre Tarleton 1754 - 1833. He was the most hated British officer in the American war of Independence, and commander of the British Legion, which means he was good, very good. Tarleton is not that common a name.

He originally came from Liverpool and I think his father was Lord Mayor. After the War he was in London, if not before. Might be worth bearing in mind when you get back to 18th Century.
