Not this marriage then ?

Marriages Dec 1875

GIRDLER  Frances     Islington  1b 533
Hill  William     Islington  1b 533

Quote
the 1901 Census there is a William Hill visiting a Caroline Langdell a widow, he has with him a daughter Eliza

They are shown as visitors - and he's 57, she's 1 - so could be a grandchild if related at all ?

I guess you got the maiden name of Atkinson from a Birth Cert ?
Wouldnt be the first time that someone changed their name - the 1881 would explain a lot ! esp if they dont show on the 1891 .... but Hill does ?

Does sound convoluted !

That 1881 Atkinson family gets even better ..... Wm is born Clerkenwell - matching 1891, and they also have a 5 month old dau Frances - so the 2 year-sets match almost pefectly !

Thats what I think sometimes, Frances Ella Hill died from Cirrhosis of the liver.

I have the birth cert for a Frances Christina Atkinson born 12 Oct 1880 at Hoxton, Shoreditch to Frances Ella Atkinson and Edward William Atkinson occupation Furrier. Frances was the informant.

I wonder if she was under the influence and sometimes gave her maiden name instead of her married name.

The marriage cert for Frances Christina Hill in 1900  her father is William Edwin Hill Farrier (this could be Furrier). She gives her address as 60, Elmore St.

There is a Frances Christina Hill born Q4 1881 but her father is John.

I will have to get this marrige and see I have many wrong certs.

Marriages Dec 1875

GIRDLER  Frances     Islington  1b 533
Hill  William     Islington  1b 533

On Eliza Hill birth cert her father is William Edmund Hill, Furrier. She was born at 16, South St, Islington which is close to Elmore St.

Andover Road and Alexander Road are still there if you look at Street map.  It is probably what is now called Tollington Place or just below

Look for Alexander road on the Charles Booth map http://booth.lse.ac.uk/cgi-bin/do.pl?sub=view_booth_and_barth&args=530150,186425,1,large,0

Installed new computer hence delay in replying, have found Grove Rd, thankyou.

I ordered the William Hill Frances Girdler marriage cert but it was an unrelated marriage.

I did obtain the marriage cert for William Hill and Abigail son William in 1889 to see if his father was still alive, he was.  So where was he in 1891 when his wife Abigail was visiting her daughter in Tottenham. I also cannot find them in 1901.

On Williams 1889 marriage cert his father's middle name is Edmund  and on his 1868 birth cert it is Edwin. The same middle name variations as my William.

I am wondering if William Edmund Hill Furrier had two families.

Seems Grove Road was renamed Tollington Way in 1940 - according to a 1980s local reference book "Streets with a Story - the book of Islington".  That's all it says about it.
