Have just posted reply on your other thread about Ireland and the same basic facts apply. To search pre-civil registration you need to know the family's religion and where they lived in order to look for church records (if they exist).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks for replies regarding Peter Mcgrath & Patrick Hornby. By the time of the England 1841 census they are both in lancashire. Patrick was a shoemaker, I think he was about 20 when he came to England. He married a Bridget Riley (possibly in Ireland). According to the 1851 England census, Peter was born in Roundtown. That, unfortunately, is all I know. Cee.
