hi Kevin B,
i read your post for a long time and you've definitely threw me!
i should start with what i know for fact,
my great grandfather had a sister called anne fox born 23 oct 1836.
thats it,thats the only thing i'm sure of!
the rest must have been passed down, family legend sort of thing,
anne married a john maguire, emmigrated and died in auckland
new zealand.i have looked for some sort of proof for the marriage
but cant find it.
if you read the previous posts you'll see why i think they settled
around gilford, mainly because annes brother terence married in tullylish
and opened a pub in gilford.the pubs still there but i dont know if any
foxes still own it.
also did you see the post from jorose, the names are near identical
to the family of your great grandmother! but their names came from a passenger list to new zealand!?
i will hunt for my notes, bits of paper, and see whats in them!
it looks like we are either connected or i've been researching your
family tree!!!

Tony,

how are things?....looks like we are related some way...relayed info to my dad who has vague stories, due to the fact that his grand parents died before he was born. anyway today he mentioned that indeed there were foxes in the family and he mentioned that they owned the pub....not sure if it is still there. This is the must productive source to date....the thing is i was trying to find out my about my great grand father William Boyle who married Mary maguire, he came from Ballybofey in Donegal. Do not know how he came to be in Gilford but there you go. The trail went cold but will continue...

look up this website if you get a chance .....

www.libraryireland.com/UlsterDirectory1910Gilford.php...or simply google 1910 gilford ...

on the above website i discovered my great grandfather on list of inhabitants and a peter fox as a wine merchant..do not about him...

Can you tell me about my great grand mother if you have anything( Mary Maguire ...my sister has a an old photo of her and her children. If you wish i could scan it and email it...Can you fill in some details of the New zealand connection...was John maguire Mary's father?....

keep in touch as the rest of our clan( as it were) are intrigued about their genealogy....

Kevin

hi kevin,
i make the same mistake, i always call gilford co. down and i was born
and bred in portadown!
i'm still not sure we're connected though.
the peter fox you mentioned was the son of annes brother terence.

do you have any birth dates for mary or her siblings?

hi kevin,
no, i'm still in northern ireland.
the problem is that if john maguire and anne fox went to
new zealand then they would be different to your maguires,

we need to find the parents of your mary to see if her mother
was anne fox and then find a record of anne marrying john maguire!

by the sound of it the fox connection in gilford is a good shout,
but this is all as clear as mud :)

Tony all i know that Hugh left for NZ and possible a sibling...my father knows little of his grand parents which is odd....but who knows they have left for NZ ...you seem to be well up on the databases...need to know william Boyles father.....is the office records in Belfast..remember enquiring some years ago and was told could research for free and get assistance from a researcher.....as you know this business can get tiresome when the leads turn cold ...but occasionally i get back to it...as i said Ill try and dig further on Mary Maguire....

by the way ..did you check the emerald ancestors website ..seems good put in details, found out about the marriage details on William and Mary but have to pay for access which i may do....

good luck your end and thanks for getting back..

Kevin
