Morning George

Because this is a search of relatively recent data, there are limitations on what documents are available. However a search of the Occupation Registration Cards WWII show that there was no card for GH. At Least that proves he wasn't here in 1940. (By here I mean Jersey).

The only other thing I can think of searching is the rates list. This obviously only shows people who are paying rates but at least it's better than nothing.

I picked the 1938 rates list as a start and I found a G. Highton living at Aubern, Vingtaine de St Nicolas, St Peter. Working backwards I found that he first appeared in the 1934 edition. Remember this would refer to the previous year so the likely-hood is he lived there in 1933. The last list where he is mentioned is 1941 so again this would tie in with the start of the occupation in 1940.

There is no actual proof that this is your George but at least it's a starting point. Remember I can only search the Jersey records.

Hi Stewart
Thank you so much just what I had hoped for and a starting point for my search (Having met him only once in the 50,s he was allways a mistery figure in the family ) Do you have anything like Gores or Kelly,s directories over there with addresses and occupations ( I would think there are not that many G.Hightons over there so at least it is narrowed down to Jersey once again Stewart Thank you
Regards George

Hi George

No we don't have either of those directories. For that period we have the Evening Post Almanac which shows addresses and who lives there but not their occupation.

If he was a tomato grower you could try making contact with Howard Davis Farm, which is the States of Jersey farm. They have a library of historical records and  may be able to assist.
