Hiya Spendlove,

I am wondering whether Mabel may have been a nurse at the front during WWI. If she did not marry, which is possible (maybe the love of her life was killed in the War), obviously you would not find a marriage. The other thought that occurs to me concerns her father. Was Rev. John Bird moved to another parish or diocese? Would Mabel's death be recorded anywhere other than Bath?

Best Wishes, Chris

Hi Chris,

I have their details up to 1901 Cenus all living in Bath
Rev. John J. S. Bird (Rev. Bird died in Bath December Q 1906.)

Letitia Bird  wife born abt 1844 Swindon Wiltshire
Mabel Gwendoline  born abt 1887 Colerne Wiltshire.

After the 1901 Census I can find no details for his Widow Letitia or their only surviving
child Mabel Gwendoline anywhere.

I had not thought about Mabel being a Nurse during the first world war, will
see what I can discover.

Thanks for your suggestion, any others greatfully received.

Hiya Spendlove,

Did you check BMDs for Somerset only or all UK? When Rev. John Bird died I would think that Mabel and her mother may have had to move house. It would depend on whether the Lambridge Street, Bath property
belonged to the church or to Rev. John.

Best Wishes, Chris

Sorry got ahead of my self. Gwen married  a man named Alexander William Cunninghame  in Bath Somerset in 1916

JJ Strutt Bird's gravestone shows he was vicar of Collerne in Wilthsire for 21 years and that he was born in 1841 and died in 1906. The grave also remembers Letitia Bird (nee Barnes), , who died in 1927 and daughter Mabel Gwendoline, married name Cunninghame, born 1887 died in 1972.
