Love the expressions Zephyr  :D

Hi Riley

Shocking alright..........yes I had found these articles.
This is part of the reason for my hunt. If this is the correct father, and the same one that also assaulted his wife (refer Papers Past 9/10/1872) then poor Annie had some interesting parents !!
There is also a "Lunacy Case File" held for an Ann Borland at the Dunedin Archives Office
I just made a trip to Dunedin..........wished I'd found this earlier so I could have viewed the file - will have to wait till next time.
Unless there's someone in Dunedin who do a lookup for me ...........PLEASE !!

I received a reply back from the Port Chalmers Museum (very speedy)
They confirmed the ELECTRIC ship but no passenger lists
The Annie Anderson they had listed didn't seem to fit.
He did suggest that The Hocken Library holds an account of the voyage - so will try that avenue next.

If you need any Chch lookups let me know - I really like they way people are keen to help each other.

Cheers
Hev

Hi Hev,

I don't believe there's a Rootschatter based in or near Dunedin.

You need to get that certificate to make sure!

Well I just received a reply from the Hocken Library........Dunedin people are so accommodating  :)

"Please find attached copies of reports of the arrival of the Electric from the Daily Telegraph of 4th and 5th June 1863 and Otago Daily Times of 4th, 5th and 9th June 1863. Unfortunately the names of the steerage passengers were not given and we do not hold any separate passenger lists for that voyage."

So my only hope is if you find anything at Archives Wgtn
This ship came direct from Glasgow so my info re Annie being born in TAS must be incorrect.
I am definately going to request her marriage cert !

Have a good day  ;)

Hev

Hi Hev,

I checked some resources at Archives NZ today and found several BORLAND families arriving to NZ but no reference to any voyage of the Electric (which doesn’t exclude it of course).

A family of Thomas and Mrs. Agnes BORLAND with children Elizabeth and Thomas arrived in Auckland on the Auckland in 1874 (Archives NZ reference: IM 15/164).

The following BORLAND’s arrived on the Zealandia in 1870 (Archives NZ reference: IM-CH 4/93): Adults: Maggie, Emma and James. Children: Charles, Emma, Robert, Sarah, William and an infant, John.

The following BORLAND’s arrived on the Mersey in 1862 (Archives NZ reference: IM-CH 4/41): Adults: Janet, Robert (and one whose name I forgot to transcribe. If you think they might be yours I’ll go back and get it). Children: Robert.

Hi Riley..........and Lu

Riley, thank you for all your efforts.
I don't believe any of these are my family but I will keep the details just in case I'm proven wrong.
Just waiting on that certificate !!

Happy searching
Hev

Hi,

I have marriage certificate for 25 April 1882 at The Office of The Registrar Of Marriages Dunedin.  Registration no 1882001506.  Annie Borland was born in Scotland (I think Milton, Glasgow), no date (I think 1858/9).  She married Thomas John Anderson who was born in Tasmania. He is listed as a builder.
Annies parents are Ann (nee McLarty) and Thomas
Thomas's parents are Christina (nee Twinbull) and Thomas.
I also know they had 7 children (my grandmother was one)
Eva Elizabeth 20/3/1910
Annie Laura 2/4/1911
Thomas Edward 23/9/1912
Catherine Finnie 17/7/1917
Edith Margaret 29/4/1919 (my grandmother)
(*) Edit by Moderator: Names of possibly living persons removed

My granny said she thinks Annie was a barmaid in Kawarau in goldmining days.

Hi S. Campbell, and welcome to RootsChat ;D ;D

Because this forum has a philosophy of protecting the privacy of living or possibly living persons I think it's best to remove the last two names from your list of children.

RootsChat has a Personal Message (PM) system to allow users to exchange personal information.

Your PM facility will be activated once you reply twice more to this topic (even just a couple of smiley's will be fine).
