ahhh - I'd never even heard of a 'brake club' before today - shows what a phillistine I am! My sister said the photo looked too old to be the funeral! I am amazed at all the things I am finding out...
Not sure why it would have left from the Gorbals - my mum's family came from the Calton. I assumed that's where they all lived originally....
obviously I've still got a lot to learn...
Thanks again,
Regards,
M x

It was named after Davie Hamilton as that would have been their favourite player!

Hiya - I understood that bit!! just was surprised that it left from the Gorbals, I just assumed he would have lived in the Calton area as that is where my mum and lots of my family lived, and I thought his fans would have been from there! Makes you proud to see it though wherever they left from - I wish I had known him, my mum said he was lovely... xxx

The Celtic Graves Society is proud to announce that there will be a ceremony to mark the resting place of DAVID HAMILTON Celtic Player, 1902-1912. A member of the legendary 6-in-a-row team 1904-10 who formed one of Celtic's most famous front-lines with Bennett, McMenemy, Quinn and Somers.

The commemoration will take place at St Peter's The Good Shepherd Cemetery, Dalbeth, near Celtic Park on Saturday 22nd January 2011 at 12 noon
Attendees at the event will include:
A representative from Celtic FC
Bobby Lennox, Lisbon Lion
Jim Craig, Celtic Graves Society Patron
Members of the Hamilton Family

A Blessing will be given by Monsignor Smith from St Mary of the Assumption Church, Calton.

All Celtic Supporters are welcome to attend and flowers/tributes can be laid at the graveside.

"I cannot forget little Hamilton, a forward of arts and parts,
whose nimble trickeries along the touch have been so profitable to the team."
From The Celtic Story, 1960.

David Hamilton was the outside-left in the first truly great Celtic team.  As part of the famous forward line which secured the Scottish championship six years in a row from 1904-1910 as well  as numerous victories in the Scottish, Charity and Glasgow Cups, Hammie was known as 'The Dancer' for his dazzling dribbling
and incredible pace. He was also a notable goalscorer in the team which helped establish 'The Celtic Way' of playing attractive, attacking football, scoring 68 goals in over 300 appearances in the Hoops - including an incredible 8 goals in 16 derby matches against Rangers.

It was said at the time that for the average Celtic fan blessed to have seen Willie Maley's incredible team in action "rolled off his tongue trippingly and lovingly a litany that made music for him in five sweet symphonies - Bennett, McMenemy, Quinn, Somers and Hamilton."

We hope you can join us at the ceremony and after at the Celtic Club on London Road prior to the kick-off against Aberdeen at 3pm.  For more information please visit:
