Davie Hamilton - played for Celtic !
« on: Saturday 14 June 08 22:33 BST (UK) »
Hello all,
Having had such luck (Hi Gabrielle!) with finding my relatives of Mirren Darragh on this site I have decided I am on a roll and will now try to trace any info. on my mum's mum's side. Her dad was Davie Hamilton  - he played for Celtic between about 1905 and 1911. My mum always said he played for the greatest Celtic team ever!! He had five children  - 2 boys and 3 girls ( I know the girls Nan, Jeannie and Mary - Mary was my grannie). I think one of the boys may have been Joseph? My great grannie died when Mary was about 3/4 years old. I know my family on Nan and Jeannie's side but would love  to get some info and be in touch with any of the boy's families. Does anyone have any knowledge of them please. I will be forever grateful ( again :-) )

I have no knowledge of the family but a photograph of Davie hamilton can be seen at
 http://www.kerrydalestreet.com/photo/541570/Davie+Hamilton?t=anon

It would also appear that he was capped for Scotland (although just the once) when he played on saturday 28th february 1903

Hi - thanks for the links - I have a little bit of info. on Davie including some pictures and some Celtic things my mum had. I am trying to trace any descendants of Davie's sons or Davy's brothers/sisters/cousins. I don't even know whether he was born in Glasgow yet. I'll keep looking though. Thanks again for your replies.
regards,
Marvin

Hi, I have recently started to research my family tree and believe we must be related.

My great grandfather was David Hamilton who was born in Glasgow in 1882 and died on 25th feb 1950 and yes, he did play for Glasgow Celtic.  He married Mary Anne Gilroy on 1st of October 1903 in Glasgow.  their children who were called Nan, Mary, Jeannie, David(1 of rwins deceased) and my Grandfather John Joseph Hamilton (1906-1982).

My Grandfather married Helen Welsh McEwan(1906-1989) on the 25th Feb 1925 and had 3 children and my mother Violet (1932-2008).

My mum married my dad 1n 1952 in Glasgow and had 2 children.  I hope this helps you.

ahh - thank you for that - I didn't know. I'll post the reply on here then!!
It's really good to hear from you - we are definately related then!! Thankyou for the information on my great grannie - I kniow she died when my grannie was about 4. I have a lovely photo of the 5 children taken in 1918 - I can send you a copy if you haven't got it already. I am going to do some research to see if I can find out where my great grannie came from. Did your part of the family stay in Scotland -we are in Buckinghamshire, England.
Hopefully we'll be able to chat more. It's great to be in touch.

Hello again M, it was good to hear from you.
In answer to your question, although my sister and I were born in Glasgow Scotland we no longer live there.  I live in Wiltshire whilst my sister lives in Oxfordshire, so we aren't that far away!  I have a bit more information on our great gran Mary Anne Gilroy for you, so here goes....
Mary Anne Gilroy was born in Glasgow on the 11th Sept 1880.  Her parents were John Gilroy (b. abt1842) and her mother was called Ann Quin (b.abt 1844).  They were both born in Ireland but moved to Scotland and married in Glasgow on the 28th Oct 1872.  John Gilroy died on 3rd June 1900 and Ann died on 23 Apr 1888.
John Gilroy's parents were Owen(?) Gilroy a school master and Mary Lynch and Ann Quin's parents were John Quin and Judith (Julia?) Fitzpatrick.
On David Hamilton, our Great grandad's side, his father was James Hamilton (1850-1915) who married Jane Morton (1848-1923) in Glasgow on the 31st October 1871.  I believe James Hamilton's mother and father were Catherine(?) Fitzpatrick and David Hamilton although I am still researching into this.
I hope this helps and hope to hear from you soon......
