Baptism - Hannah Rebecca HOWARD - Polstead

Looking for Parents of Hannah Rebecca Howard b 1784 Polstead Suffolk married 13 Dec 1813 to James Greenwood, she died 1824 Polstead Suffolk, Hannah and James had a daughter Rebekah Howard b 1823, she is the only child i am aware of at this time

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi there

I have this particular Hannah and James GREENWOOD nee HOWARD connected to one of my lines but i'm not directly related to them themselves. 

Interestingly enough i have Hannah as born 1805.  Her marriage date given to me was 3 April 1814 but if this was the case, it means she would have only been 9 when married and maybe transcription error and should read 1824? I do not know where my informant got this birthdate from.  Hannah died on 29 June 1824 in Polstead which may account for why there were no other children apart from daughter Rebeckah if infact they did marry in April 1824.  Unfortunately i don't have Hannah's parents :-(

 I have James GREENWOOD born 1790 and dying 8 Jan 1843 at Roxford, Suffolk, England.  He was a bricklayer.

Their daughter Rebeckah baptised c9Nov1823 Polstead, Suffolk and dying in Oxford, Canterbury, New Zealand on 18 Oct 1906, Rebeckah is buried at Oxford Cemetery.  She married  Abraham JONES on 27 Feb 1842 at Stoke-by-Nayland,  Suffolk (he was b c24 Aug 1817 Stoke-by-Nayland, Suffolk, England and died 31 Dec 1875 in Rangiora, NZ - he was killed from effects of sunstroke while mowing oats down near the river, his brother William died of the same effects the previous day).  Rebeckah and Abraham travelled to NZ onboard the Clontarf in 1860.  They had 12 Children between 1840 and 1868 -  (one being born before they married) named Hannah; Walter; Mary Ann [Marianne]; Emma; Susanna; Emma; Arthur; Charles; Charlotte; Rosetta; Alfred and Ellen.

My G G G uncle Jonas William STEVENSON married Rosetta JONES, daughter of Rebeckah and Abraham on 23 March 1881 at Oxford, Canterbury, NZ

I am a direct descedant of Abraham Jones and Rebeckah Greenwood through their son Walter, they are my gt gt gt gt grandparents,
Would love any information that you could supply, Have been searching for Hannahs parents for so long, no luck  I had her as born in 1784, but cant remember where i got that from which would make her 4 yrs older than James  who i have as born 9 Jan 1788

I will send you what i have of Abraham Jones also. I have his father (Samuel b c1788) and grandfather (Thomas bc1751) with their offspring.  You may be able to glean some info off this to if you are interested.

Ironically, my next door neighbour i had for years in Christchurch (NZ) was a direct descendant of Abraham anbd Rebeckah Jones daughter Mary Ann [Marianne]

As with any research passed round by others, sometimes it's not always verified as you would do yourself, so if you find anything glaringly wrong it would be great if you could let me know and i'll amend.

I have to get the info off my other computer that has just had a new HD installed and we're reinstalling all the programmes at the moment, so it should be within the next couple of hours :-)

Thankyou for your help, Yes it is surprising she married so late and maybe you are right and she could have been married before, or the birth is not accurate, as i can find nothing about her at all. Just wondering if maybe her mother was named Rebecca as it seems to run down the line, Interesting to find that Robert might be their child, ive never been able to find children either, i swear sometimes i think my family hatched

Rebecca Greenwood b 1823, Polstead, had brothers James, b abt 1814, Stoke by Nayland, and  Robert, b abt 1821, Polstead.
My husband is descended thru Rebecca & Abraham's daughter, Emma Priscilla Jones b 1852
