I was looking at my G grandfarthers details from an online census and I thought I'd do a search on google of the address. And what do you know? It's listed with a real estate agent online and there's a photo from the street. Pity about the cars though.

I better go check some more address's, you never know.

I would be really cheeky and phone them up and ask for a copy of the details, tell them your interested in moving to the area or something.

Down side is you may get bombarded with loads of details.

Hi,

Yes doing a bit of Googling on street names does pay off - using google image finder is useful too.  I found a picture of Morris Street, Stepney which is the street where my family owned a pub from 1895 to 1920s just along from the Sainsbury's.
It is on the Sainsbury Archive website - on asking to reproduce it, they were very helpful and gave me permission to use it on my family tree website if I wanted too.  I've also found some old pictures of streets where my rellies lived which is just interesting to see.

One of the best ones I found doing a google search was my GG grandfarthes pub in Barnsley, The Masons Arms. It's no longer a pub but the building is still there. It's no a tyre retailer.

Here's a then and now. It was in front of the old Clarkeson Brewery. The Sign on the old pub says Clarkeson Brewery. The one on the right was black and white, I colourised it in photoshop.

Hi Deadants,

What a great picture - you say you colourised it yourself - not tried that - have removed marks etc - but not thought about recoloring!

Any tips?

Cheers

Well Keith, if you want to colorise a photo, you will need a software package that can do Layers. I use Adobe  Photoshop but the cheaper version Adobe Photoshop Elements or Paint Shop Pro will do the job

There are plenty of online tutorials for colorising.

This is one of my first attempts. It's my grandfarther with the shotgun.

It looks a lot better at high resolution, but you get the idea.

Hi deadants,

Thanks for that - have used layers - but only to make signs for my model railway!!

Never thought about using it for actual photos!!

Is your grandfather getting ready for a Shot Gun Wedding!! ;D ;D

Hope my first attempt is as good.

Cheers
