Hi. Is anyone still researching the Risi family from Newcastle?! I'm interested to find out what I can about where my family came from... I know this was Casino but I would like more detail! Thanks. Bjorn Risi

Such a shame when there are no existing shipping details to peruse. One can always hope there may have been more information given on documents, so acquiring actual certs can sometimes help.

Read the post and links by Berlin-Bob in reply #2

This sounds like good reading although doubt there is any genealogy involved

I think this poster on another site may be related although he has a different forename your grandmother

Thanks, JJ, for the link.  I've ordered the book in the hope it will be of interest.

Oh, sorry... I see my link didn't paste on that earlier post...

adding: I was totally off base anyway as that was too late a marriage to have been a relative

Everyone has always been able to p.m. me after only two posts, and I them, so I have never been sure why they say one must post three times... Unless it has inconsistancies ;) J.J.

Hi

Thanks for the message Paul (Millybobs)!

To answer your question... My great grandfather was Angelo Antonio Risi and Great Grandmother Euphemia Risi.

I believe they came to England via the port of Liverpool and for some reason travelled and settled first in Scarborough (selling chestnuts on the beach) for a short time before moving up to Newcastle and starting the ice cream business. Interestingly the Risi tomb in Newcastle is next to a Jaconelli grave (Jaconelli is a well known Scarborough ice cream family).

They lived in Byker in the east end of Newcastle and had shops on Shields Road, the Grainger Market and various mobile sales pitches.

My grandfather was Joe (Giuseppi) Risi, the brother of Sammy Risi. They both ran the Risi's Ice Cream business at different times until their deaths.

I'm really keen to find out more about other parts of the family. My father mentioned a few times that he had cousins in Leeds I think. Also keen to know more about Casino and any relatives that might still be there!

Lets keep in touch.

Bjorn

Bjorn - a man named Nicholas Rice has this family tree - it includes 3 from Newcastle upon Tyne 1917-1927
http://gw.geneanet.org/nrice?lang=en&v=RISI&m=N
it looks like ONE Risi changed his surname to Rice - in his opinion an English spelling of his surname
have a look - might be interesting
good luck
