You may also be interested to know that the name Halyn also means 'One of a kind. Special and unique"
Which she may well have been!!
Beryl may have been given to the ancient references in her naming as she also wrote some of her horticultural books under the name of Chloris which meens 'greening' and is associated with the freshening of flowers and vegetation in spring.

I'm glad my last post helped. I think, under the rules, you can probably get the 1967 death certificate - although it will take forever being a Queensland one.

The alternative may be to see if there is a newspaper funeral notice - or a memorial inscription mentioning her children. One day I will get to the library - just not sure which year  ::)  ::)

Thanks again Trish and Sue,
I'll place an order for the death certificate and keep my fingers crossed.
The newspaper funeral notice would also be a bonus.

I found in the 1934 (Moreton, Harrisville) electoral roll on CD the same as Trish found for the 1936 roll.
Lucas, Beryl Llywelyn,  writer.
Lucas, Harry Eyre, writer.    Both living at Flinders.

I couldn't seem to find them any earlier than this.
However, I did also look for Harry Giles Eyre, in 1930 he is living in Randwick East in Sydney.
Details are  1930 South Sydney, Randwick East
Eyre, Harry Giles, 104 Mount St, artist.   and presumably his wife
Eyre, Elaine Violet,  secretary.
Next door at 106 Mount Street ("Yeronga")
Eyre, Violet Maud, home duties.
Eyre, Alwynne Eva, home duties.
Could these two ladies be daughters of Harry (Sr) - ie Harry Giles Eyre's sisters maybe?

Then in 1936 district name has changed to Watson, sub-dist Randwick East.
Harry Giles Eyre same address.  No wife.
and only Violet Maud Eyre living at 106 Mount St.

A few of these names could also give some clues.  Hope this helps.

Thank you Anita.
The 1934 electoral roll record confirms the information supplied by Trish and Sue. More importantly, it provides me with a larger picture of their lives during those times.
I appreciate your effort in bringing me this information.

The Sydney names that you have found are the children from his first family and include his first wife.

There is no doubt that the mysterious B L Lucas has now been accurately identified thanks to all of you people who have given your personal time to help me find some of the missing pieces to the family jigsaw puzzle.
Where would we be without you.
Thanks again, one and all.

As an update to this thread.
I was unsuccessful in obtaining the 1967 death certificate for Lucas. The QLD BD&M office will not give step children of the deceased access to their records.

I will therefore need to wait until 2017 before I can apply again.  :-\

Thanks again to all those of you who assisted in identifying Beryl Llewellyn Lucas as the person I was looking for.
I have since found some very interesting information about her. I was also successful in applying for her birth certificate which provided further information about her.

I couldn't have done it without your valuable help and guidance.

Hi Spyder

Keep checking the rules, maybe Qld will line up with other states and provide earlier access to death certificates. NSW has them to 1977. A little disappointing, but nice that you found everything else  :)
