Hi Shuggie B,

I do not have this William on my tree, have seen a couple of Bruce's listed before with connections to the Hendrie name in Ayr but they were farmers. Sorry I can't be of any help at this time.

Glen

In the 1841 census there is a William Henry age 17 coal miner in Kilmaurs which is not that far from Galston.  Long shot I know.

I have had a look at the Census Record which I had previously seen and ignored, probably because I didn't realise CM was an abbreviation for coal miner.
Thanks again Liz, I might have remained in ignorance forever.
What a pity the 1841 Census states his mother as 'Widow' Hendry - most unhelpful.

You could search for the sister Mirrens death or marriage which would give parents name.

Thanks Liz,
I'll do that, or maybe trace the Frances that's at the top of the next page and easily overlooked. I haven't found any Mirren Hendry's in the 1851 Ayrshire Census so I'll look further afield. The next entry in the 1841 Census is for anotther Hendry grouping with a father whose name I can't make out - and yet another Mirren.  I'd never heard this name before.

With regard to my search for a William Hendrie/Hendry/Henry who fathered two children with Mary Mathieson, William (abt 1850) and Margaret (1853), it now looks suspiciously like William Hendry (b Riccarton, 1809; d 1879, Kilmarnock).
He was married to Mary Ann Smith from Ireland (m 1834). They had no children and Mary died after the 1851 Census but before 1855.
William then married Mary Drysdale (again from Ireland) in 1858. They had four children, Mary Hendry (1863), William Hendry (1867), Jeanie Hendry (1870) and John Hendry (1876).
I believe on the basis of location and occupation, but cannot prove, that William Hendry had a relationship with Mary Mathieson between his two marriages.
If anyone has any knowledge of this William Hendry I would be delighted to hear from them.

There is information on the internet regarding the parentage of William Bruce Hendrie (b 1850) which give the father as William Wyllie Hendrie. I believe this to be wrong.

Hi Falkyrn, Seekthem, & List,

Just found this list and really not sure how to respond to individual messages. I have been searching Hendrie's from St. Quivox for about 15 years. Falkyrn mentions John Hendrie and Jane Dickie with 9 children, I have 11 listed for them. Don't have much on their daughters except full birth dates, but more on the boys, some up to present times.

For Seekthem, about Isabel McCreath Hall, they had 5 children, 2 of the boys ended up in Canada.

Above message copy and pasted from oowillie44

Hi oorwillie44  - do you have any further information on Isabel McCreath Hall re Canada.
The reason I ask is the Watsons and Halls Peebles St Newton on Ayr St Quivox had quite a few marriages.  A lot of Watsons emigrated to Saskatchewan late 1800s and early 1900s.

Hi,

Not really sure who this message is from but if you read my answer again it says Isabel McCreath Hall had 5 children, 2 of the boys ended up in Canada.

Isabel died in Newton-on-Ayr in 1914 and she never went to Canada. I was never following the Watson's or Hall's just basically the Hendrie's where Isabel married into. Have info on all 5 of her children if you are interested.
