"My" Barr lot came from Lanarkshire and appear to have stayed in Carluke and the adjoining area.

Thomas Barr (born circa 1690) married Jannet Gilkerson (my Great [x7] Grandparents)
their children - that I know of - were John , Janet, Thomas, James & Eupham.

Hello Falkyrn - Sorry to be so long in reply.  Thanks for your reply, it seems at this stage there is no connection, but one never knows in genealogy what further research comes up with, if find a possibility of any connection I will let you know.
Cheers
Lionel

Hi Scully

A cousin seems to think the Father of Elizabeth is John Young HENDRIE.... but we have no proof.. as the Deat Rego  just states ????Hendrie..

1841 CENSUS  I find a Mary HENDRY  living around the corner from Elizabeth and Husband Forrester.. this Mary is age 70   Elizabeth on this census is age 25 same age as hubby...later census  and death rego suggest she is born  1816.... Husband was born in 1912..  If Elizabeth is a younger child  then perhaps  Mary HENDRY  is her MOther......

I'm not even sure the name FLEMMING on the death rego is correct  as who ever was the informant  gave ??? for Christian names of Both..

cheers
Jan

Hi Jan,
The problem i have is i only have 2 children for Peter & Mary, I know for definate that they had James born about 1823 and i think they may of also had a son Charles about 1837. I can,t believe that there were no more children but up till now i have not come across any more siblings that tie in. I,m sure theres got to be more out there somewhere. Just have to keep trying.

Hi Falkyrn, Seekthem, & List,

Just found this list and really not sure how to respond to individual messages. I have been searching Hendrie's from St. Quivox for about 15 years. Falkyrn mentions John Hendrie and Jane Dickie with 9 children, I have 11 listed for them. Don't have much on their daughters except full birth dates, but more on the boys, some up to present times.

For Seekthem, about Isabel McCreath Hall, they had 5 children, 2 of the boys ended up in Canada.

I do not have anything on Jane, daughter of John & Jane Dickie. If you could possibly help me with the girls, I would like to share any information that I have.
Thank you,
Glen

Since that original post I too have added to the number of children and agree with your tally of 11 - I would be pleased to exchange information either by PM or I can be contacted by email by clicking on the email symbol under my falcon photograph. For security reasons Rootschat does not like email addresses to appear in open messages.

Hi,
Just found this web-site and am not overly familiar about navigation and where to post so I'll try here for a start.
I am looking for a WILLIAM HENDRIE, collier, who fathered two children with MARY MATHIESON : WILLIAM (BRUCE) HENDRIE in 1850 and MARGARET HENDRIE in 1853 in Sornhill/Galston. Mary went on to marry ALEXANDER CRICHTON in 1860. The son WILLIAM HENDRIE was raised by his grandmother MARION BRUCE (formerly MARION MATHIESON/IRVINE) and he took her surname first as a middle name (1861) and then a surname (1871).
Apart from WILLIAM HENDRIE's occupation I have little to go on but have not been able to find any suitable William Hendries in 1851, 1861 or 1871 Censuses.  I have tried the usual variations of HENRY, HENDRY.
One candidate is WILLIAM WYLLIE HENDRIE whose mother was a JANE BRUCE but this HENDRIE family from St. Quivox were farmers/nurserymen not coal-miners.
Another possibility is WILLIAM HENDRIE b c1829 in Saltcoats who was an agricultural labourer in 1851 and collier in 1861. He married SARAH DUNCAN in 1861 in Stevenston.
Any help with regard to William Hendrie (collier) would be welcome.
