Seeking help to locate any info on my lost MCNAB'S
« on: Friday 06 June 08 14:22 BST (UK) »
Im stuck, lost and becoming rapidly disheartened....

I would appreciate any help or infomation about;

John McNab m Janet Clark at Killin church Nov 30 1800. They had 9 children, Helen, Betty, Margaret, Alexander, John, Janet, William, Ann and her twin Isabella. All Christened in either Forteviot or Tibbermore, Perthshire.

William married Isabella Sinclair, moved to Dundee, had a family and immigrated to Australia in 1852 aboard the 'Flora'. I have a solid history of this and the subsequent McNab's in Australia but not about what became of the other siblings and parents - John & Janet.

Looking forward to any assistance...

I have just returned from this neck of the woods, and found that it is the heartland of the McNabs. They even have a McNab clan cemetery in Killin!

Try to expand your search area, however, as many familys have dispersed from the area from the early to mid 1800's, my Morrison family included.

Good luck with the search.

John,
I am so thrilled to receive your email.  Thanks so much for taking the time... yes its all correct.  You have done well.  I'm just so stuck, not sure of where next ? Too many McNabs and too any Johns , Williams etc

I have all McNab info from the time they arrived in Australia - that was the easy bit.  Not sure if others left Scotland for Canada etc at the same time as William & Isabella but I cant find the rest of them anywhere... John & Janet and the rest of their kids.  There is a John McNab born forteviot 1765 - that I thought may be my John Snr.  It looks likes he is the son of William McNab and possibly Elspeth Donaldson. (again speculation and hope?)

I was hoping some long lost relative with all the answers would email me - my hope is fading.

Really great to get a response, any idea's greatly appreciated - Thanks!!!!

Hi Christina,
I cannot find Amelia, Alexander or their 3 children in 1851 Census Scotland ... nor any of them in the 1881 Census .... do you think [if they indeed are your McNabs) that they may also have emigrated .... to Canada ... like William and Isabella et al ??

Immigrant Ships may have the answer ?

Aye

John,

The info on Alexander is amazing!!! The names of his children would dictate  at this time that he is indeed my Alexander.  I cant thank you enough!

Im stunned!  You have been incredibly generous with your time - Thank you!
I will start on immigration info asap.

I have been stuck for so long - Thank you so very much!

Hello Christina,

My Great X3 Grandfather Robert McNab was born in 1811 in Forteviot. His father's name was John, but I have no record of his mother's name etc. Don't know if there is any connection with your McNabs.
Dave.

Christina,
I should have said that Robert was born in 1811 not 1911 as earlier stated.
