Hi

I have found that Longfield AFC played at Joule Street in Blackley. I've looked on Google Earth and found an area of waste land at the end of Joule Street, was there ever a football pitch here and were there any pubs in the area.

Hi Chris

Map from 1939 showing a football ground but not your's or could they have moved to this ground? might be a new avenue to go down?

Nearest pub would be
Mowers Arms
Moston Lane, Moston, Manchester, Lancashire M9 4HF
Tel: 0161 202 2811

Next would be the Brickies (closed down)

then

The Old Loom Inn
120, Moston Lane, Manchester, Lancashire M9 4HU
Tel: 0161 203 6608

I will be going down Clough Road some time today so will have a nosey around

Regards
Ken

Cheers for the map, and pub info. They played at joule street in 1910 but after that I don't know. I think a search of the papers at Central Library is my next step.

Are any of the pubs you listed anything like the background of my original Team photo

Thanks again

Mowers has 2 single windows either side of the door.

Brickies has satone type arched windows.

Old Loom - will have to check later but dont think it is the same place

A lot of the land around that area was being redeveloped from the 1930's todate so some pubs must have gone as well.

Does that photo give you any indication by whats on the windows? this scan is to small to make any detail out when enlarged.

I've had a look at the photo, the windows are etched with what looks like SMOKER, there is also a reflection (right hand window) which I think reads Brooke Bros. Could there be a row of shops opposite ?

Not forgot about you  ;)

Think I may have Identified the pub as "The Old Loom" on Moston Lane, yep the one I said was not  :-X

I will have to do some more brick counting to comfirm, but at the mo the Old Loom has a single brick between the windows a 3 brick count between the window and an inset down pipe - just like your photo.

Only did a quick brick count driving passed, but looking good.

This pub would make more sense if the entrance to the ground was via Joule st.
