Hi Leprechaun,
Many thanks for that, but now I'm going to sound REAL dumb!
Where can I find the census for Ireland???
I have Ancestry & Family Relatives etc. but none of these have Irish Census??
Having said that we seem to have made a little progress since last night.
Contrary to what we had been told previously from family legends it looks as though several of Peter Molloy's children were actually born near Barnsley, Yorkshire from about 1913 onwards thru to about 1924 to a mother maiden name Cunliffe.
The Patrick c1902 that we are looking for though does not SEEM to be in any English Birth Register, nor can we identify 3 more of his siblings in the English registers.
Equally we cannot find a marriage for Peter Molloy to a Cunliffe anywhere in England.
SO - our current assumption is that they married in Ireland, had a number of children before moving to England, possibly 1910 / 12 ish.
As you say, Peter may well have remarried but assuming at the moment that he didn't and that his wife was bearing children between 1902 &1924 it seems likely that she was born around about 1880, give or take a couple of years.
I've just ordered one of the Barnsley birth certificates to hopefully get the mothers full name and confirm that the father is indeed Peter.
Again, family legend has it that Peter & his wife actually stayed in Ireland, but then family legend had it that my own Great Grandfather was born in Ireland whereas he was actually born in Rotherham, Yorkshire to Irish parents whe met & married in Cheshire!
Regards,
Mike
