Fahy-Gort Co Galway

I know Fahy is a very common name in Co Galway-but if any one has any leads or info on any Fahy from Gort I'd be most interested-I have a Mary Fahy from Gort  she was born 1833.I know nothing of Mary's family so any info no matter how small will be of interest-Regards Nippy

Hi , I think I can add a little to the history of the Fahy family in Gort for You.  In the 1901 Census they lived in Georges st, Barthly Fahy [Bartholemew] the father had just died,
Bridget,his wife was born 1851.
Children.
Agnes born 1876,  was a weaver by trade,
John born1880, was a baker in Crow St.
Mary born 1884, was a housemade [unemployed].
Michael born 1885 was an errand boy.
Agnes married John Brennan in 1901 and they had a boy called Patrick who died of TB in 1918 and was an apprentice Tailor. Their second child was born in June 1903 and died two days later. her mother Agnes had died just after the birth

Thank-you Grizzley for that info,I'll pop it on file,I wonder if they where any relation to Mary,Ive now found out that Mary died in 1922 .I have nothing solid but I feel that she may have had either a sister or Aunt called Bridget .Keep your eyes peeled for me,Cheers Nipy

Have just registered on this site and came accross this thread by accident. I have a close friend who lives in Gort Co. Galway. Last year I visited the Lady Gregory museum just outside the town at Kiltartan. The curator of the museum is a Sister de Lourdes Fahy, from a local convent. She is not only a local history expert, but judjung by her name may also be a valuable contact for you!
