Yorkshire West Redding 1891 census lookup reqest please
« on: Thursday 29 May 08 17:47 BST (UK) »
I live in the US and am confused as to how to locate a relative on the 1891 census.  I am looking for MUSETTE DAY, she was born 26 Feb 1890 but it is listed as:  Lancashire, Yorkshire - West Riding. Can someone help me locate this family? She married a William Cumpstey, but I haven't found out if it was in England or US.  They were in Meriden CT USA in 1917, but I can't find a marriage in either country.

Thank you so much Tati, I have been looking for quite some time and thought with such an unusual first name I would have had better luck.  This is the first time posting on this board and I am thrilled.  ~ Judy

Here's John William in 1881 with his parents:

Oooh - I've just searched FreeBMD for the John William / Alice marriage and it seems Alice's surname was Day as well!  :P

Wow that's wild!  So the Henry age 72 living with them in 1891 must be Alice's father, as John's father is William Day.  Thank-you so much for going the extra mile.  I don't want to impose, but I seem to be on a roll here and don't want to let it slip away.  Is there any way to find a marriage for Musette and William Cumpstey(b. 1890 Blackburn),  between 1911 when they would have been of full age and 1917 when they show up in the US as married?

Sorry, I'm unable to see Musette's marriage in England  :-\

I agree Henry looks like Alice's father:

Ribble Street

Henry Day, head, 55, Cotton Power Loom Weaver, b. Lancashire Preston
Alice, wife, 54, b. Lancashire (L/S)ealand
Ann, dau, 19, Cotton Beamer, b. Preston
Isabella, dau, 16, Cotton Power Loom Weaver, b. do.
Alice, dau, 10, scholar, b. do.
/
Henry Ward, son in law, mar, 27, Cotton Power Loom Weaver, b. Lancashire Kirkham
James Ward, grandson, (can't make out age, but he's 11 in 1881), b. Padiham

Thank-you so much for giving the marriage a try, I really appreciate it.  I have fond memories of this couple.  Actually they were my mother's Aunt & Uncle, but because my real grandfather died before my mother was born, my "Uncle Bill (his brother) & Aunt Heddy (Musette) stepped into the role as "parent/grandparent". So I do appreciate your efforts, Thanks ~ Judy
