Did  you say  cake shop,  now  that beats a bottle  shop  in  my  Book well almost (she says sighing)
Perhaps  Rootschatters  could cover cake shops in Australia  for any  overseas visitors,  a  lot have died  out because of Woolies and Coles  though.
There is a glorious cake shop  in Urala in NSW  that is to die for all  the old fashioned cakes it was so hard to choose  just one.

Byron  is just a wonderfull  place  have not been  there since the early seventies, I  do so  want to see  what modernization  has  done to the  place.

Kind regards Jenn

Jenn

This shop in Byron is to DIE FOR.  Pastries  -- both savoury and sweet, cakes, rolls, tarts, pies.  It's got the lot.  We always go in there when we go down.

Don't despair, there are a couple of bottle shops too......... and some really great little cafe/restaurants.  One is The Balcony, great comfy couches out on a huge verandah, fantastic food, and lots of different wines, cocktails and beers to choose from........  Could stay all day if the bank balance would allow.

Oh no Jenn, don't go to Byron by yourself....................... TAKE ME WITH YOU. ;D ;D ;D

I love it there and it's definately the kind of place where you need someone with you  --------  even if it's to whisper and giggle " Blimey did you see THAT!!!"   Byron is that kind of place.  There's a fantastic cake shop, and some wonderful galleries with amazing local artwork.

Hi Karenlee

Seems you may need gumboots for the walking in the cemetery at the minute  ;D

I foolishly drove through (crawled through, hiccuped through) BB one January a couple of years ago - there are more peaceful places to visit on the NSW coast - wall to wall cars - just impossible

Jenn

If you drive down the motor way from Brisbane & once over the border take the exit to Kingscliffe/Cabarita - I think the Road is called the Tweed Valley way or similar - there are some beautiful spots. As long as it isn't the school holidays reasonably quiet. Drive throught to Pottsville and you can return the same way or short cut back up the freeway. Much closer and a nicer drive than going to Byron Bay - but perhaps the BB addicts will disagree.

My daughter wanted to go to BB for New Years Eve a few years ago - when I discovered  it was going to cost $3000 for an apartment for 1 week  :-\  :-\  we didn't make it.
