Where were these places ?
« on: Tuesday 27 May 08 19:02 BST (UK) »
I am hoping that someone can throw some light on where my rellies have lived in the past.

Firstly, in 1878, my gt gt grandparents lived in Low Carnegie, Kilmacolm, where my gt grandfather was born.

I also have my gt gt gt grandparents having lived at 31 Church Street, Port Glasgow, at the 1871 census.

And at the 1881 census, my gt gt gt grandparents are at Low Carnegie, where my gt grandfather was born.
And also at the 1881 census, I have my gt gt grandparents at Burrels Court ,Port Glasgow.

The family name that I am looking for, is Coventry.

Hope that someone can help.

Gail :)

Hi Gail
I haven't heard of Burrels court and I'm not sure of Low Carnegie
but Church street is still one of the main streets in Port Glasgow
if you google Port glasgow pictures there are some nice pictures
on the fine art prints site  of Church street  and some of other streets in Port Glasgow

Moffat Orphanage
Carnegie Park built 1887 the bequest of Thomas Moffat
the architects were James Brown Stewart
and William Gilmour Wilson
there are references to these in a book called
Glasgow institute of fine arts
I got this info by googling Port glasgow Orphanage
