Thanks Diddy

I have been going to the Local Record Office and have found the Eglen surname a lot in Beetley. My husband is from Dereham so he knows the surrounding villages quite well. Next time I go the record office I might look in the Reymerston Area.

When you get back a little further you will find that the name Eglen or Eglin is often interchanged with the name Edlin, Edlen or Edlyn.

For example Samuel Pepys in his diary has a number of references to a Mr Eglen who was at Cambridge University with him.  This was the Rev Samuel  Edlyn who sometimes used the alternative spelling of Edelen.

I think mine and yours are possibly from the same roots, mine that I have traced hale back to

William Eglen 1765 born in Gressenhall and Elizabeth (Vincent)1768 Born in Houghton,

Then on to William 13 July 1794 Gressenhall (one of 8 Children) and Sarah Cobb 24 Dec 1801 East Dereham?

Then William 30 Oct 1825 Dillington ( one of 10 children) and Catherine Maria Cook 1836,

James William 1 Aug 1858 Castle Acre ( one of 6 Children) and Maude Mary Tebbutt 15 Dec 1872

Francis Rodney 23 Apr 1904 Hull and Caroline Annie Brown 28 Mar 1903

Gordon Arthur 1929 Hull and Betty Robinson 1927

Do any of the first one fall in with yours, I do have more detail if you need more proof. I do know that some of the aboves children live in Beetley. I.e

John 1813 and Sarah Catchpole 1819 Beetley
Children
Anne 1838
Lydia 1839
Mary 1842
John 1845
James 1847
William 1852

I hope that makes sence
thanks for replying
