Although I'm not sure, am wondering about this one - a couple of years older than "your" James though :-\

1851 13 Fortune's Passage, St Mildred, Canterbury

Elizabeth COLLIS head unm 30 washerwoman b.Hereford
William son 13? b.Canterbury
Elizabeth dau 8 b.Canterbury
James H son 5 b.Canterbury
Annie H dau 3 b.Canterbury
Susannah H dau 1 b.Canterbury
William HAYWARD visitor mar 38 fisherman b.Lydden

HO107/1624 folio 245 page 12
.........................

1861

5 Fortune's Passage, Canterbury

Elizabeth COLLIS head unm 39 charwoman b.Risden? Hertfordshire
Elizabeth H dau 18 charwoman b.Canterbury
James H son 15 farm lab b.Canterbury
Ann H dau 13 b.Canterbury
Susanah H dau 11 b.Canterbury
William HAYWARD boarder 48 fish hawker b.Lydden

RG9/520 folio 63 page 18
.......................

The children were illegitimate with some appearing to have been registered as COLLIS and some HAYWARD and I couldn't see this James H (I assume the H to be for HAYWARD) as COLLIS in any cenus later than 1861 :-\

Hopefully, his marriage certificate will show some details for a father.

I've looked on the Canterbury Baptism Index, there's quite a few HAYWARDs in Canterbury but nothing for a James Hayward (or Haywood.)  I've also checked Heyward/Heywood, but nothing at all for that spelling.

Re Casalguidi's last post, I've noticed baptisms for 3 base-born children of Elizabeth - Elizabeth Hayward COLLIS, Sarah Susan COLLIS & Susannah Hayward COLLIS, so looks like the lodger was responsible for at least two children ;D
