James Hayward
« on: Sunday 25 May 08 08:11 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for information concerning a James Hayward born cicrca 1849 in or around Canterbury. His wife was Susan Snow and one of their daughters was Olive Snow Hayward.

I am having trouble finding any information concerning his parents or indeed much about him save a couple of Census reports.

If anyone has any information on James Hayward or his ancestors I would love to hear from you.

THanks

Aidan  :)

Does his 1876 Marriage Cert reveal a Father's name and occupation ?

He first appears in 1871, boarding in Chelsea .....

no obvious BMD Index entry, so my usual approach of a remarried mother and James taking a stepfathers name until he was 'of age' may not apply .....

I too found the 1871 Chelsea Census as well as the later ones of 1881 / 91 & 1901.

I could not find the year they were married. How did you find it? I tried Ancestry.co.uk but drew a blank although I'm not altogether sure i'm using it correctly.

Thanks for that - I eventually found it on Genes Reunited and have asked for a copy to be posted to me.

Do you find Genes Reunited more user friendly than Ancestry.co.uk?

I find that Ancestry doesn't always filter the information very well.

Thanks for all your assistance,

Kind regards

As far as I was aware Genes Reunited is a forum, not genealogical resources ?

So what is being posted to you ?

The info above is all that you will see in an Index entry .... and enough to order the Certificate.

Ancestry takes the BMD Index transcriptions from FreeBMD - and is never as up to date - except for the full GRO Index resource.....

Newfster

Genes Reunited has all the censuses indexed, cost to see 50 credits for 7 days. Plus civil registration for BMD quarterly index page images. Same for First and Second World War deaths. To see the index page images you need credits.

So as far as I can tell (haven't got any credits) what is coming by post could only be the page of the GRO quarterly index which FreeBMD has already produced the information for freely. The actual marriage certificate itself can only be obtained from the GRO

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

As Genes Reunited states

'At the current time, the General Register Office charges £7.00 per certificate. (Please note that the General Register Office is separate from Genes Reunited and Genes Reunited does not sell certificates).'
