Noble/Watts of Fraserburgh
« on: Saturday 24 May 08 13:50 BST (UK) »
I am hoping someone can help me out with this one.
I have Alexander Watt born 1816 Fraserburgh married to Margaret Noble.
Margaret died before the 1851 census leaving behind Alexander and 3 children; Marjorie,Christina and Alexander.
Christina was my 2x gt grandmother.
Alexander was a fisherman and remarried to Magdalene Watt.

Regards

I've just checked the 1851 census and it has Alexander as married not widowed* - could it just be that Margaret/May/Marjory was away from the household on census night?

* double checked and I'd read the previous entry of a John Watt. Alexander was a widower  :-[

On the 1861, we have:

Fraserburgh 196 ED 4

Alexander Watt, 46, Fisherman, b. Fraserburgh
Magdalene, 31
Margaret R, 11
Charles, 9,
Mary, 7
Alexander, 2
Magdalene, 2

All born Fraserburgh

Margaret would have been b. circa 1850  but is not on the 1851 census with the family you have.

Alexander died in 1882, aged 66.  His parents were Alexander Watt and Margaret, maiden surname Mitchell. Only Magdalene is mentioned on his death cert.

The birth cert of  Magadene, b. 1857 has her mother's maiden name as Magdalene Watt.  Alexander was the informant. No marriage date given  :(

Still not getting anything definite on the 1841 for a Marjory/May or Margaret Noble  :(

The birth cert of Isabella Watt, b. 1868 shows that Magdalene Watt and Alexander married April 10th 1851, Fraserburgh. .

The marriage cert of Marjory Watt, 1869, Rathven, Banff to John Grant, shows her mother's maiden name as Marjory, m.s.Noble. Father Alexander Watt.

I think Christian's mother's name was probably Marjory - maybe May but not Margaret.

Ah, we;re getting somewhere  :D

1871

37 Shore Street, Fraserburgh
196 ED 1

Alexander Noble, 39, fisherman
Elizabeth, 40, fisherman's wife, b. Aberdeen
Elizabeth A , 10,
Jean, 7,
Christian F, 3,
Margaret Watt, cousin, 17, servant (domestic)  (I think she was showing as 11 in 1861)

Apart from Elizabeth, all born Fraserburgh. So if Margaret and Alexander were cousins, then Marjory would be the sibling of Alexander's father - I think!
