Hi Clincher,That is incredible, you have made my day. All the info now been given by Annette and yourself has confirmed some of the info that was given to me and more :)Rechecked what i could find on Familysearch and there were quite a few Leggett/Legate/Leggats in Essex as well.My branch of the Leggetts went from Suffolk to Norfolk. William ( born 1821) married Mary Ann Hannah Newby and were Publicans in Great Yarmouth from 1860's. I have all their children and their son William ( 1842-1926) went to N.Z.once again. thankyou, you are incredible.Trish

I've just stumbled across this topic again and have noticed that you had traced John and Honor Leggott (or Legget(t) etc) in 1841/1851/1861 census.
What was their address in any of those census and did John work as a gardener for a big house?

1841   John and Honor and children in Hungate Street, Beccles, no street no. John and William are M.S. ( male servants?) Indexed as LeggOtt.

1851    49 London Road ( image hard to read) Beccles.
             John 57, Honor 59, John occ.Servant.

1861     73 Hungate Street. John 68 (widow) and market
             gardener
              Daughter Mary Ann with him aged 37. No occp.

1871     58 Hungate Street,widow,78, market gardener.
             Mary Ann, unmarried still with him aged 47.

If he was a servant/gardener for a large house does not appear to have lived on-site?. Checked addresses around him on censuses .

You inspired me to follow Mary Ann Leggett after her Fathers death. Unfortunately she ended up in a workhouse in 1891.

How sad.

I confused myself  bit here. I thought some of your Leggets (e.g. William) might have stayed in Stratford/West Ham.
Workhouses may have been awful places overall but they did usually include an infirmary for the sick so that might have been why Mary Ann ended her days in the workhouse.

No problem, I am always confused . I am sure there is a link to Stratford, probably further back than John. Have not delved into that yet. In the future if I find anything will let you know.

He is very knowledgable + another Leggett researcher whose name escapes me at present???

Other site is linked to LFH, Malcolm Leggetts site. Very pleasant man also. Have had emails from Ron and Malcolm.

That is how I found my  John Leggett/Honors names as William Leggetts parents
