I can't help with your actual query, I'm afraid, but I'll just butt in and say I have some Scruttons in my tree.  They're usually called Jeremiah and seem to be from around the Falkenham area throughout the 18th century, leaving for London in the 1830s.

I've not got a great deal on them - another researcher sent me a basic outline of my line of Scruttons, but not much flesh on the bones.

I noticed on the genfair/Felixstowe FHS website that they have some parish register transcriptions available for this area, so I've ordered them to try to flesh out this branch of my tree.
Lancashire: Stevenson, Wild, Holden, Jepson
Worcs/Staffs: Steventon, Smith
East London & Suffolk: Guest, Scrutton
East London: Palfreman (prev Tyneside), Bissell, Collis, Dearlove, Ettridge
Herts: Camac, Collis, Mason, Dorrington, Siggens
Marylebone & Sussex: Cole
London & Huntingdonshire: Freeman
Bowland: Marsden, Noble
Shropshire: Guest

Hi Aulus,

They are a slippery bunch the Scruttons ;)

I am sure mine have some sort of link to the London area too. John and Honor were in that area and baptised children in Essex.
This is in the too hard basket at present, too many other lines to follow.

We can just hope ;D

Trish

MELES, extremely pleased for you. Must email Les with all my Leggets in New Zealand once I have finished that line properly. They tended to be large families, and N.Z. stuff is pretty hard to trace, but have had great help from N.Z. board.
