Thanks for that.  It doesnt look anything like I remember it.  When I was a little girl the corner opposite was a bombed out hole we kids used to play in and throw snowballs at one another across the hole. My mother is buried in the city of london cemetary.  I live a few doors from the pub. Opposite but one of the bombed out hole.

The building opposite the Three Rabbits (also known as the Rabbit Hotel) was indeed hit on the 23/09/1940 with 26 fatalities (the CWGC gives the address as 742 Romford Road).

I do have some further information so feel free to contact me.

sorry can you ignore this request realise I have asked this question before just had a senior moment
I thought your post was interesting Janet.  I hadnt seen your post before.  I lived across the roafdd in Fourth avenue from birth until aged 12.  the side the Chip shop was on.  two doors down from there. I and my family along with little friends played snowblls in the bombed out are opposite where the Three Rabbits pub was. I beleive the building is in use for something else now. My mum is buired in the City of London Cemetary, a short walk from the Three Rabbits.

Hi

833 Romford Road is now "Anthonys Pharmacy"
Big red bus in the way on google streetview.

The road "opposite" is Rabbits Road (Romford Road end of Aldersbrooke Road)

Ray

Ray I am familiar with Aldersbrooke road are as I was a small child in Aldesbrooke Childrens homes several times until the age of 8 or 9.  My mum died when I was 9 and a half and I was lucky not to have to go to the homes again.  I was fostered locally by a Salvation Army couple who really took good care of me.  mY sister was also fostered locally by a friends family and two brothers went to dr Barnados..

I would like some detil on that please Peter.  I dont think my family were quite into Fourth Avenue in 1940, will take  look at my borhers birth certi to see what address he was living.  we were all born at forest gate Hospital, northeast west ham.  He may have been 1st Avenue then I think. Thanks
