Ankers in Hargrave, Hopely in Malpas

Hi all

After a long break from researching my family I am now getting back into the swing of things.

I am researching the name Ankers in Hargrave and surrounding areas, my first family to start off with there is William Ankers married to Mary Hopely 27th Jan 1835, I've managed to find a few of his family on the censuses.
Thomas, Williams son moved to Birkenhead where he married and had a son called William, William married Elizabeth McConkie in Barton upon Irwell, one of their children Margaret Ankers married a Frederick Carline. Margaret and Fred had a daughter called Alice Wynne Carline who is my grandmother.

I would love to hear from anyone with any connections to the above.

I would also dearly love to find out more about his wife Mary hopely who was from No Mans Heath Malpas, so if she rings any bells with anyone I would love to hear from you.

Hi Pam....do you have a place/year of birth for Thomas..if he was born around 1828/29 in Richmond,Yorkshire and had a brother called George i may have a possible link for you with a distant rellie of mine who lived in Newcastle(born Portsea) and married a Harriet Ankers.Let me know and i'll PM you what i have

I'm sorry my Thomas was born in 1848 in Hargrave, Cheshire.

There were a few Ankers families in cheshire and I have been told by a gentleman some years ago that these families were unconnected so it may be worth you checking the other families out.

the 1851 cencus has a george hopley aged 20yrs born malpas staying with them this looks like his baptism

I do have the above but its nice to get them verified by someone else as there are times you tend to doubt yourself!!  Thank you so much for this, these are my family.

I must admit though at the moment I wish Joseph wasn't lol, I can't find the little devil anywhere on the 1851 census, he disappears from the 51 to turn up married on the 61.

I don't suppose if anyone knows how common it would be for someone after being a railway signal man for approx 20yrs to suddenley decide he's a farmer in his 50's, I wouldn't of thought he would of earned enough money to either buy or rent land on that wage.

I'm not sure, although I don't think so.  I would imagine it may be tattenhall, perhaps someone else can help us on this one.

This is very interesting info, I haven't as yet done much with my Hopely's apart from some census seaching which has turned
them upliving in the same town as my Ankers.  I don't know if this is my family though as the mary married to william was born about 1812/3 but it might be a nephew though.  I have noticed both the ankers and hopley's all seem to use the same names when naming their children, perhaps they were close families?

I know on the same census as well as George living with them they have Charles who is 8 and from tattenhall and william who is 6 from goldbourn.  this is quite a puzzle as it only says they are a relative and doesn't even say if these 2 lads are related to george at all.

Charles never seems to marry as he is found on a leter census living with one of William Ankers sons, also one of the williams grand children turn up living with a hopley family.

I'll make a note of this info as it will probably come in handy, I've found this in the past.

For Mary did it give where she was from??  In a later census she gives No Mans Heath as her home which is a small hamlet in malpas.
