Hello Flocer. I think the best way is to just type in the inscriptions and then you can read them and see what you make of them. Hope there is some useful information.

This one is an old stone but rather weathered :-

Buried Mary Scott, daughter of William and Ann Scott, June/6/1770 aged 6 years.
Also Jane ????????? the rest unreadable.

In memory of Ann Scott, youngest daughter of William and Ann Scott of Tow Law, who departed this life January/28/1866 aged 10 years and 7 months.
The above William Scott, who died April/25/1875 aged 63 years.
Mary Reed, daughter of the above, who died December/16/1876 aged 27 years.
Nicholas Scott, son of the above, who died December/31/1884 aged 43 years.
Also Ann, Wife of the above William Scott, who died February/13/1886 aged 75 years.

Sacred to the memory of Nicholas Scott of Coldrowley?, who died November/6/1841 age ??
Elizabeth, daughter of Nicolas and Martha Scott, died December/8/1847 aged 25 years.
John, son of the above Nicholas and Martha Scott, died April/3/1849 aged 25 years
Thomas, son of the above Nicholas and Martha Scott, who departed this life November/10/1857 aged 30 years.
Also Martha Scott, wife of the above Nicholas Scott, who died at Wolsingham on December/31/1861 aged 83 years.

Hi Adam

This is a great work.

If you get chance and there aren't too many, could we have any hutchinson, Lowther Young inscriptions?  If there are too many could we have especially the Hutchinson ones please?

(All conceivably part of our travelling clan with the Berry's).

Thank you for all the good work you do.

Best wishes

Adam,

I noticed you hadn't got any Cheatham headstones listed at the beginning of the thread. There were a couple of headstones by the far wall of St Mary and St Stephen's Wolsingham  (far left wall from entrance from Church Lane) - tower of the church side of the churchyard .

Last time I visited Wolsingham the headstones were in a very bad way being under trees etc and the large headstone was leaning but I have details of them from a previous visit.

Just a newbie so I can't pm.

Best wishes,

Carole

Hello Carole. I have added the Cheatham surname that I have to the  list. I think it would be a good idea if you posted the difficult to read gravestone. It may help someone.

Many thanks for your quick reply Adam.

Cheatham headstones....

The first one wasn't too bad -

John Cheatham died Bishop Auckland Nov 20th 1875 aged 27 years
Elizabeth Cheatham died 14th Feb 1915 aged 70 years
Alice Mary daughter of John and Elizabeth Cheatham died 27th June 1916 aged 40 years

The second large headstone was starting to weather -

In Affectionate Remembrance of Thomas Cheatham who died at Bishop Auckland
(June 9th 1847) aged (6 years) Also Ann sister of the above who died (March 2(6)th 1850) aged (6/8) years
Also Margaret who died at Wolsingham (April 16th 1859) aged (1) year
Also Jane who died November 27th 1859 aged 19 years
Also Elizabeth who died October 30th 1872 aged 22 years
Also John Cheatham father of the above who died April 5th 1875 aged 62 years
Also Mary (daughter of the above) who died (November 1879/80) aged (27) years
Also Mary wife of the above John Cheatham who died in New Zealand (November) 1891 aged 80 years
Also Thomas Cheatham father of the above John Cheatham who died July 22nd 1869 aged 78 years and Jane Cheatham wife of the above who died March (15th) 1876 aged 83 years

Bits I was unsure of in brackets.

I have photos of the headstones should anyone be interested.

Best wishes,

Carole

Hello, this is my first time on the site so please excuse me if I sound a bit green.
I am looking for the surname ADAMSON Anthony in Wolsingham, the family would appear to have been farmers in the area and related to the Vasey surname.  The family would appear to move away from Wolsingham to Oakenshaw by 1841 and then to Yorkshire by 1861.

I look forward to your assistance and advice.  Many thanks  Lynn
