Mike,
The only Elliott on my tree is Mary Ann Elliott born Alconbury Huntingdonshire 1851. She married Jonathan Bell born 1851. Her Father was William born 1816 - Mother Mary born 1829. No record of a daughter Jane. So connection to your Elliott branch unknown.

Regards - nn.

Hello Mike. I have Elliott  inscriptions for about 64 gravestones from the Dale (12 for Wolsingham) although most of them would be far to late for you.
Do you want the Elliott inscriptions for Wolsingham  regardless of the christian names.
There is one for a Thomas Elliott but the birth date works out at 1797. How sure are you of the 1792 date
that you give?
As for Jane, do you think we may need a married name?

Hi Adam,
Not sure about 1792 or even Wolsingham but Jane Ord nee Elliot could be buried elsewhere, thought if Jane a family name there may be others of that name in Wolsingham, I am presuming that Thonley Elliots would be buried in Wolsingham! Am I correct?

Hello Mike. Here are four inscriptions from Wolsingham Parish Church :-

Sacred to the memory of John Elliot, died march/8/1848 aged 83 years.
Jane wife of John Elliot, died May/24/1812 aged 42 years.
Ann wife of Christopher Heads and daughter of John and Jane Elliott, died September/11/1830 aged 42 years.

In memory of the Rev Joshua Elliot, incumbent of Thornley, in the parish of Wolsingham, died February/16/1855 aged 45 years.
Also Martha, wife of the above , died February/8/1865 aged 49? years.

In memory of Thomas Elliot of Hedley Hope, who died February/27/1872 aged 75 years.
Margaret, wife of the above, died August/26/1872 aged 70 years.
Thomas their son, died February/20/1830 aged 4 years.
Mary their daughter, died April/20/1830 aged 1 year
Mary their daughter, died February/6/1844 aged 1 year
Ann their daughter, died March/30/1863 aged 29 years.
James their son, died May/9/1862 aged 33 years.
Thomas their son, died May/8?/1871 aged 37 years.

I must say that you are researching one of the most difficult names.
There are so many and they seem to be inter related with just about every well known name in the Dale. But good luck.

Hi Adam
thanks for the information.
I have a Great Great Grandmother called Jane Elliot who was born in Thornley County Durham about 1839 with a father called Thomas Elliot a miner who I originally thought was born in 1792 but now could be about 1811! I have her marriage certificate in Seghill Northumberland 4/4/1859, but have been unable to confirm her birth or her parents despite many certificates and searches. I have had a suggestion to try Stockdale family in Teesdale but no sucess so far. This mother of Jane is the only Great Great Great grandparent I still have to identify, so am trying anything any one suggests.
regards
MikeB
I am aware there is another Thornley in Durham and am trying there as well.
