Hello again Adam
could you please post the Armstrong listings for Wolsingham. Just as a matter of interest - my ancestors were all primitive methodists and as most of the chapels have gone from Weardale, where else could some one who died in the late 19c and early 20c be buried, none of them seem to be any where near to where they lived and worked.they have just vanished!!
many thanks in advance.
Y.

Hello Polly? There is only one gravestone for Armstrong at Wolsingham.

It is not in the best of condition but here is what is readable:-
In memory of Jane, daughter of Edward and Ann Armstrong, died ?/September/1811? aged 16 years?
Also Edward, who died 21/July/1812 aged 42 years.
Thomas, died July/19/1836 aged 30 years.

As for burial places in Wolsingham. there is St Mary and St Stephen C of E,
St Thomas Roman Catholic and The Baptist Church.
Of course there are others in the surrounding areas, Frosterley only four miles up the Dale, Tow law another couple of miles up towards the A 68.

I have posted these and they do have Armstrong names.

Hello Pyrite.
There are only a few Brownless gravestones and quite a few for Henderson. The stones are at Brancepeth, Wolsingham, Tow Law, Willington, Witton le Wear, Hamsterley, Lanchester, Etherley, Crook, Stanley Crook, St Ellen(Auck) Satley. Garrigill
You need to go to the first posting on each subject where a full list of Surnames are posted.
Then post your request for the information.
Do not post a multiple request because that may mean many gravestones.
I did Have one request and it meant a total of 100 gravestones.
To be fair to the person they did not know how big the task was when they posted it.

Adam

Sorry Adam,
I meant which churchyard in Wolsingham. I'm assuming there's more than one?

Hello Pyrite. Here they are:-

In memory of Joshua Henderson, who died October/3/1857 aged 64 years.
Also Elizabeth, wife of the above who died June/20/1872 aged 85(the 5 could be a 3) years.
Also of Mary Henderson of Wolsingham, daughter of the above, who died January/7/1892 aged 82 years. This one is from St Mary and St Stephen.

There are two other gravestones in the C of E churchyard but they are from the 1950's and later.

The next are a pair of identical stones and I think they may be man and wife.

George ????ton Brownless, died 12/October1912 aged 48 years.

Margaret brownless, died 10/June/1911 aged 39? years. These two are from the St Thomas Catholic Church.

Thanks Adam - my ancestors are actually from St Johns Chapel but I have been to all the cemeteries there and as far up as Rookhope and found none of them. Two were self made men with businesses that were thriving at the time of their deaths so I cant imagine they had paupers or unmarked graves. Its  a mystery.
Should I ask for Armstrongs for Tow law and Frosterley on those pages so it makes sense to other readers?
thanks
Yvonne (Pollyflinders)
