Hello Ruskie. Finally got in to the church today. It has been a bit difficult because they are without a parish priest at the moment.
Sorry to say that there are no Whitfield memorials or any mention of Whitfield inside the Church.

Adam.

Hello Shirley.
There are 17 gravestones for Johnson, dating from 1761---2003.
The two shown :- Johnson and Johnson/Wayper were just  showing what names I had in my data base for  Wolsingham. In the full data base(covering most of Wear Valley I have 85 Johnson gravestone inscriptions)
What dates are you looking for?

Adam

Adam,

Many thanks for the time and trouble you have gone to looking for Whitfields inside the church. There were several Whitfields buried in Wolsingham but their headstones are probably long gone.

I'm very grateful for your help.

Thanks a lot.

Hi Adam

Sorry,I didn't realise there would be so many Johnson's
I am looking specifically for Wolsingham C of E and pre 1800
Hope that narrows it down to a more manageable number-if not let me know.
Thanks
Shirley

Hello Shirley. There is only one early inscription. All the rest are in the early to late 1900's. Here it is:-

Here lies the body of Frances, wife of George Johnson, died June/4/1761 aged 26 years.

Hello Ed. Here is the wolsingham inscription:-

In loving memory of Harold ?arke?, only son of Robert and Margaret Ann Wraith, who died December/13/1924 aged 18 years.

This stone was one of those that have lead lettering. Unfortunately the lead has come away, hence the ?arke?
