This glass, (which I'm slowly beginning to wish didn't exist!!) is inscribed H & MS.   It was the Museum who told my Gran the initials stood for Henry and Martha Swain plus all the other information.  Prior to that, she had never heard of these people.    However, according to my late Gran 'only 6 were made' - don't know how she knew that, but ... I'm now wondering, a) whether the 'only 6' is a figment of someone's imagination;  b) it was one of a set of 6 given to Henry and Martha on their wedding as a present, (perhaps by Henry's family?) or that c) it was one - of an unknown number - that came to my Gran via being just one of those things knocking about a relly's house and are kept for sentimental reasons.

Whatever - I will get to the bottom of this ... one day .. maybe!

Angie, I'll PM you about the Finch side, probably easier because if we can 'connect' I can, if you wish, email you any bits which may be of interest, in the form of attachments.     That said, because it was a second marriage (for Martha), and therefore not a direct line, what information I do have is filed away 'just in case' so, it may take me a day or two to dig it out (it's on this computer somewhere!!).

Hi Mogsmum
I would be very intersted in to what you have on the Finch. I will show my dad everything that you have posted on here to see if it jogs his memory or my Uncle who is a few years older than my dad to see if he remembers anything more. But when I spoke to Dad last night he said that the Barge business was definatly at the bottom of Medway street on the river quey.
Sorry that we don't know any more than I have already told you other than the fact that the business must of exsist.
regards
Angie.
